To analyze the frequency of potentially inappropriate medication use according to the Beers' criteria in elderly people at the therapy departments of a hospital. ⋯ The findings suggest that the elderly patients frequently receive potentially inappropriate medications; as a result their benefits can be overweighed by the risk.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study
[Autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation as late high-dose consolidation in adult patients with T-cell lymphoblastic leukemias: Results of a Russian multicenter study].
To analyze the efficiency of the ALL-2009 protocol (ClinicalTrials.gov NCT01 193933) in patients with T-cell leukemias, particularly the role of autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (auto-HSCT) after non-myeloablative BEAM conditioning, followed by maintenance therapy. ⋯ The long-term survival rates obtained during this multicenter study in the T-ALL patients treated according to the ALL-2009 protocol, the basis for which is the principle of continuity of cytostatic effects, are exclusively optimistic. Late consolidation with auto-HSCT following non-myeloablative BEAM conditioning, followed by maintenance therapy, considerably reduces the risk of recurrence.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study
[Treatment for knee osteoarthritis in patients with oxalate nephropathy].
To elucidate the safety profile and symptom-modifying effect of Alflutop and diacerein in the treatment of Kellgren-Lawrence Stages II-III knee osteoarthrosis (OA) in patients with oxalate nephropathy and Stages I-II chronic kidney disease (CKD) and to refine the effect of these drugs on urinary syndrome and renal function as compared to a response to nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs--cyclooxygenase inhibitors (diclofenac). ⋯ Alflutop and diacerein used by patients with knee OA do not produce nephrotoxic effects and by day 90 demonstrated similar to diclofenac symptom-modifying effect by reducing pain and stiffness scores. Diclofenac administration contributed to oxalate nephropathy progress.

AIM. To analyze changes in the serum concentrations of the morphogenetic proteins fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF-23) and Klotho, as well as sclerostin, an osteocyte-secreted glycoprotein, in relation to the degree of hypertension, left ventricular (LV) hypertrophy, and arterial stiffness in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) at its different stages. ⋯ It was demonstrated that there was a clear link between increased serum FGF-23 and decreased Klotho concentration as CKD progressed, and that between arterial stiffness and calcification and myocardial remodelling regardless of traditional risk factors. More experimental and clinical studies are required to clarify the role of sclerostin in CKD.

To study the incidence, severity, predictive factors, and prognostic value of contrast-induced acute kidney injury (CIAKI) in patients with ST-segment elevation acute coronary syndrome (STSEACS), who have undergone primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). ⋯ The development of CIAKI is associated with poor outcomes, such as higher 30-day mortality and more frequent cardiovascular disease readmissions.
