Comparative Study
[The neuroendocrine reactions in patients with chronic bronchitis in a region of the northeastern USSR].
The author describes differences in the manifestations of mutually determined reactions of the sympathoadrenal and hypophyseoadrenocortical systems in their interaction with the biologically active substance serotonin in healthy persons (124) and patients suffering from chronic bronchitis at different times of living on the Chukot Peninsula. The most perfect system of the protective effect on the part of the neuroendocrine complex can be seen in chronic bronchitis patients within the first 3-5 years of living in the North as compared with the reaction of the neuroendocrine system in the examined patients with a longer "northern record" (10-15 years and more).

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study Clinical Trial
[The efficacy of bifidum-containing preparations in enterogenous reactive arthritis].
Analysis is made of the intestinal microflora in 43 patients suffering from reactive arthritides (ReA) that developed after intestinal infection. The overwhelming majority of the patients manifested a decrease of the level of the bifidoflora. ⋯ Bifidumbacterine was found to produce a significant beneficial effect on the course of ReA and to cause no serious side effects. According to the preliminary data, the efficacy of bifidumbacterin exceeded that of the known basic drug salazopyridazine, thus making it possible to apply the bifidum-containing drugs as basic agents in the treatment of ReA.

Comparative Study Clinical Trial Controlled Clinical Trial
[The therapeutic potentials of magnesium sulfate in bronchial asthma].
Twelve patients with preasthma (PA) and 27 bronchial asthma (BA) patients were examined for the effect of magnesium sulphate aerosol on bronchial sensitivity and reactivity to acetylcholine (ACC) and graded physical exercise (GPE) as well as on bronchial patency recorded by general plethysmography and pneumotachography. Inhalation of the drug was established to exert no bronchodilatory action but reduced, as compared with placebo, nonspecific hyperreactivity of the bronchial tree and blocked the ACC induced increment of histamine in the exhaled air condensate. The data obtained allow bronchial smooth muscles and mast cells to be regarded as targets for magnesium sulphate. The drug properties discovered may serve a prerequisite for its use in the combined treatment of BA patients and those with PA.

Review
[The achievements and outlook in the study of the problem of reactive arthritis in children].
The paper is concerned with certain aspects of the problem of reactive arthritis (ReA) in children and with the data obtained by the author. The emphasis is laid on ReA related to intestinal and nasopharyngeal infections and viewed as an independent disease entity. Some controversial issues are discussed and approaches to further studies into such a complex problem are outlined.
