Ginger ( Zingiber officinale ) prevents severe damage to the lungs due to hyperoxia and inflammation
Hyperoxia- and inflammation-induced lung injury is an important cause of the development of bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) in premature infants. We aimed to ascertain the beneficial effects of ginger ( Zingiber officinale ) on rat pups exposed to hyperoxia and inflammation. ⋯ Ginger efficiently reduced the lung damage and protected the lungs from severe damage due to hyperoxia and inflammation. Therefore, ginger may be an alternative option for the treatment of BPD.

The aim of this study was to investigate the microbiological profile and resistance rates of diabetic foot infections (DFIs) and to determine the effect of peripheral arterial disease (PAD) on the microbiology, clinical condition, and treatment outcomes. ⋯ This retrospective study indicates that PAD has a significant role, especially in elderly patients with DFIs. Patients should be promptly evaluated and treated for PAD to prevent infections with resistant microorganisms and limb loss.

Effects of volume-controlled equal ratio ventilation with recruitment maneuver and positive end-expiratory pressure in laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy: a prospective, randomized, controlled trial
We compared the effects of volume-controlled equal ratio ventilation (VC-ERV) and volume-controlled conventional ratio ventilation (VC-CRV) on oxygenation, ventilation, respiratory mechanics, and hemodynamic status during mechanical ventilation with recruitment maneuver (RM) and positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP) in patients undergoing laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy. ⋯ VC-ERV provides significantly lower Ppeak and higher Cdyn with similar oxygenation, ventilation, hemodynamic parameters, and Pmean levels when compared to VC-CRV during mechanical ventilation with RM and PEEP in laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy.

The aims of this study were to detect CCND1 , C-MYC , and FGFR1 amplification using qPCR, confirmation with FISH, and to further assess their clinicopathological relevance. ⋯ Our findings revealed that the applied qPCR approach could precisely quantify the relative gene copy number. More studies with a larger sample size are suggested to confirm the clinicopathological value of CCND1 , C-MYC , and FGFR1 amplification.
