We aimed to investigate the relationship between risk factors and the presence of coronary artery disease (CAD) in a young population with stable angina pectoris (SAP). ⋯ Contrary to studies performed in the elderly, traditional and nontraditional risk factors could not exactly predict the presence of CAD in a young population with SAP.

It is of crucial importantance to be able to detect acute psychological distress in patients. The Intensive Care Psychological Assessment Tool (IPAT) was developed for this purpose in intensive care units. This study aims to evaluate the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of IPAT. ⋯ The Turkish version of IPAT was found to be a valid and reliable tool to assess acute psychological distress among patients in intensive care units.

Effect of dilutional anemia that can be treated with only one unit of red blood cell transfusion on tissue oxygenation in cardiac surgery patients
Cardiac surgery, especially in the presence of cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB), is associated with an inflammatory reaction that may promote microcirculatory alterations, in addition to the general impact on system hemodynamics. Anemia and transfusion make patients more susceptible to the deleterious effects of CPB. In this study, it was aimed to evaluate the effect of dilutional anemia, which is caused by CPB and can be treated with 1–2 units of red blood cell (RBC) transfusion, on global tissue oxygenation parameters in cardiac surgery patients. ⋯ Dilutional anemia as a result of CPB mostly occurs in patients with borderline preoperative hemoglobin concentrations and its correction with RBC transfusion does not normalize the degree of microcirculatory and oxygenation problems, which the patients are already prone to because of the nature of CPB. Preventing dilutional anemia and transfusion, especially in patients with preoperative borderline hemoglobin levels, may therefore reduce the burden of impaired microcirculation-associated organ failure in on-pump cardiac surgery.

Vascular complications can be detected in liver transplant patients. Digital subtraction angiography has served as the gold standard to make this diagnosis; however, due to its invasive nature, ultrasonography is used for the preliminary evaluation. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the role of multislice computerized tomography angiography (MSCTA) in the detection of vascular complications of symptomatic and asymptomatic liver transplant patients and to compare the results with Doppler ultrasound (Doppler US) findings. ⋯ MSCTA detected more lesions and we believe that it should be considered as a road map for Doppler US follow-ups as well as a routine screening modality for early detection of vascular complications in symptomatic and asymptomatic liver transplantation patients that may be missed by Doppler US.

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is the most common chronic inflammatory skin disorder of childhood. Underlying factors that contribute to AD are impaired epithelial barrier, alterations in the lipid composition of the skin, immunological imbalance including increased Th2/Th1 ratio, proinflammatory cytokines, decreased T regulatory cells, genetic mutations, and epigenetic alterations. Atopic dermatitis is a multifactorial disease with a particularly complicated pathophysiology. ⋯ In this review, we aimed to illustrate the current understanding of the underlying pathogenic mechanisms in AD, to evaluate available treatment options with a focus on recently discovered therapeutic agents, and to determine the personal, familial, and economic burdens of the disease, which are frequently neglected issues in AD. Currently available therapies only provide transient solutions and cannot fully cure the disease. However, advances in the understanding of the pathogenic mechanisms of the disease have led to the production of new treatment options, while ongoing drug trials also have had promising results.
