Growth differentiation factor (GDF)-15 is related to inflammation and mortality in many conditions. We aimed to determine if an elevated serum GDF-15 level is related to nutritional status of patients on hemodialysis (HD) and mortality. ⋯ In HD patients, the GDF-15 level is increased in worse nutritional status. Beyond the MIS, age, GDF-15 and CRP would be used together to estimate the worse clinical outcome in these patients.

Comparative Study
The Comparison of Lopinavir/Ritonavir Combination and Favipiravir In COVID-19 Treatment.
SARS-CoV-2, a ribonucleic acid coronavirus, rapidly spread worldwide within a short timeframe. Although different antiviral, antiinflammatory, and immunomodulatory drugs are used, current evidence is insufficient as to which drug is more efficient. Our study compared favipiravir and lopinavir/ritonavir (LPV/RTV) therapies in inpatient care for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pneumonia. ⋯ The use of favipiravir was more effective than LPV/RTV in reducing mortality in hospitalized patients with COVID-19.

The efficacy of mepolizumab has been largely demonstrated in clinical trials in patients with severe eosinophilic asthma (SEA). However, reports on experience with mepolizumab in a real-life cohort are limited. Moreover, data about the effectiveness of mepolizumab on small airways is scarce. This study evaluated the effectiveness of mepolizumab therapy on symptoms, asthma exacerbations, blood eosinophils, steroid dependence, and small airways in a real-life cohort of patients with SEA. ⋯ In this study, mepolizumab significantly improved all outcomes (symptom scores, asthma exacerbations, OCS sparing, and blood eosinophils) except functional parameters. Still, despite the dose reduction in mOCS dosage, no significant deterioration was observed in FEV1 and FEF25-75 values.

Multicenter Study
Evaluation of Extensively Drug-Resistant Gram Negative Bacteremia among Solid-Organ Transplant Recipients: A Multicenter Study.
The aim of this study is to evaluate the distribution, sources, clinical features, and mortality rates of bacteremia due to evaluation of extensively drug-resistant (XDR) gram negative among solid-organ transplant (SOT) recipients. ⋯ Difficult-to-treat infections due to XDR bacteria in SOT recipients shadow the success of transplantation. Central venous catheters seem to be the main risk factor. Judicious use of medical devices is of pivotal importance.

Microsatellite instability tests and programmed cell death-1 (PD-1)/programmed cell death ligand-1 (PD-L1) in the immune checkpoint pathway are the tests that determine who will benefit from immune checkpoint inhibitor therapy. We aimed to show the expression of DNA mismatch repair proteins and PD-1/PD-L1 molecules that inhibit immune checkpoints, to explain the relationship between them, and to demonstrate their predictive role in recurrent and nonrecurrent glioblastoma. ⋯ The presence of microsatellite instability and low PD-L1 levels, which are among the causes of treatment resistance in glioblastoma, were found to be compatible with the literature in our study, with higher rates in recurrent cases. In recurrent cases with higher mutations and where immunotherapy resistance is expected less, low PD-L1 levels thought that different combinations with other immune checkpoint inhibitors can be tried as predictive and prognostic marker in GBM patients.
