Extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation (ECPR) is defined as the venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA-ECMO) support in a patient who experienced a sudden pulseless condition attributable to cessation of cardiac mechanical activity and circulation. We aimed to evaluate the clinical outcomes of our ECPR experience in a pediatric patient population. ⋯ ECPR can be a life-saving therapeutic strategy using a promising technology in the pediatric IHCA population. Early initiation and a well-coordinated, skilled, and dedicated ECMO team are the mainstay for better survival rates.

The aim of this study was to measure the volume of interscalene space in thoracic outlet region on cadavers and radiological images and to analyze the potential value of these measurements in diagnosis and treatment of thoracic outlet syndrome (TOS). ⋯ In our study, volume of interscalene space in TOS patients was statistically smaller than control group. Also, the volume was even smaller in patients with excellent or good results after surgery. In this respect, volumetric measurements from CT sections could be used in diagnosis and treatment selection in TOS patients.

Headaches are one of the most common neurological symptoms. They adversely affect daily life, reduces the workforce, and have high health costs. Managing this symptom in primary care will free up secondary and tertiary health services to better treat patients who need follow-up by specialists. In the present study, we aim to show the rate at which this problem can be solved in primary care for patients who applied tertiary care services with a headache for the first time. ⋯ Patients with headache applied tertiary care instead of primary care for different reasons. Both neurologists and family physicians stated that most patients evaluated in tertiary care could be managed in primary care.

Familial Mediterranean fever (FMF) is a genetically recessive autoinflammatory disease caused by mutations in the Mediterranean fever (MEFV) gene. The aim of this study was to investigate the frequencies of the most common MEFV mutations among a sample of healthy individuals from the Havsa population of European Turkey, where FMF is less prevalent compared to Asian Turkey. ⋯ These data suggest that the positivity of the MEFV gene mutation tests have lower predictive value in a population with low FMF prevalence.

Use of topical anesthesia before flexible bronchoscopy for the evaluation of the upper airways prevents cough and stridor during and after the procedure while reducing the need for sedation. In practice, lidocaine is the medication of choice before bronchoscopy. There various types of nebulizers used for inhalation treatments. In this study, we compared the respiratory tract symptoms after flexible bronchoscopy between children who received pre-procedure topical lidocaine with mesh or jet nebulizers. ⋯ Topical lidocaine application with mesh nebulizers decreases the most common complication, cough, after flexible bronchoscopy in children more effectively compare to jet nebulizers. Thus, mesh nebulizers may be a faster way of nebulization before flexible bronchoscopy as an alternative to jet nebulizers.
