This study aimed to determine the frequency of relapse, the risk factors for relapse, and the correlation of relapse with immunosuppressive regimens in patients with granulomatosis polyangiitis (GPA). ⋯ An increased risk of relapse was observed in patients who had cavitary lung lesions and in those who had elevated serum creatinine levels. The combined use of RTX and CYC for the remission therapy in GPA reduced the relapse rates compared with the use of CYC alone.

To evaluate the pre and post-treatment heart rate and oxygen (O2) saturation values measured before, during and after 6MWT in children who received PAH-specific treatment and to determine the effect of these variables on prognosis. ⋯ Post-treatment 6MWT, FC and proBNP had prognostic value in pediatric patients with PAH. The decrease in saturation and increase in heart rate were not found to have a prognostic value. Pre-treatment HR1 was associated with survival. Identification of these prognostic factors at the beginning and throughout the treatment may be a guide for detecting the severity of the disease and follow-up.

Although cutting edge procedures such as cell-free fetal DNA isolation from maternal blood are now available, invasive prenatal tests are still being used extensively for prenatal diagnosis. The study aims to evaluate the demographic data, indications, and cytogenetic results of 9297 results of patients who underwent prenatal invasive testing for genetic analysis that were referred for the last 20 years in a University Medical Genetics Center. ⋯ These data have provided useful information on the frequency of referrals to the reference genetics department, and the feasibility of genetic services. By reviewing the indications and their corresponding results, we can offer invaluable insights that will be useful in genetic counseling and also in the development of more effective genetic strategies.

Because of close relations to important anatomical structures such as cavernous sinus and optic nerve, sphenoid sinus variations must be well trained by the otolaryngologist who has an interest in endoscopic sinus surgery. Newly defined sphenoseptal cell (SSC) is one of those variations that may lead to insufficient endoscopic sinus surgery outcomes if not defined preoperatively with imaging studies. The present study aimed to present the main characteristics of this special type of nasal cell. ⋯ Although an SSC is a rare variation of nasal air cells, preoperative diagnosis of this cell is of paramount importance in some patients during endoscopic transnasal surgery for the identification of skull base.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are known up-to-date candidate biomarkers for several diseases. In addition, obtaining miRNA from different body fluids such as serum, plasma, saliva, and urine is relatively easy to handle. Herein we aimed to detect miRNAs as biomarkers for early stage prostate cancer (PC). For this purpose, we used urine and serum samples to detect any significant differences in miRNA profiles between patients and healthy controls. ⋯ Notably, the expression profile of MIR320A was significantly altered in urine specimens of prostate cancer patients. We considered that MIR320A has been evaluated as a valuable biomarker that can be used in the early diagnosis of PC.
