Observational Study
Association between depression scores and comprehensive geriatric assessment and frailty in geriatric outpatients with somatic complaints: an observational cross-sectional study.
Depression is the most common psychiatric problem in older individuals. In some countries, the common approach is to ignore psychiatric disorders. This study aimed to reveal the importance of newly diagnosed high depression scores in the geriatric population admitted to outpatient clinics with somatic complaints. ⋯ Depression scores in older people may be associated with not only mood but also the functionality. As with other geriatric syndromes, symptoms in depression may be atypical rather than typical.

Adrenal incidentalomas have been associated with increased cardiovascular risk and have a prevalence as high as 10%. This study aims to evaluate carotid- intima media thickness (CIMT), left ventricular mass, and epicardial adipose tissue thickness in nonfunctioning adrenal incidentaloma patients and compare their results with healthy controls. ⋯ Adrenal incidentaloma patients need to be monitored for cardiac dysfunction. CIMT may be used to evaluate adrenal incidentaloma patients for early cardiovascular risk.

In this study, it was aimed to evaluate the change in antimicrobial efficacy related to the presence of the organic load of four different antiseptic solutions that are frequently used in hospitals. ⋯ It is concluded that the antimicrobial efficacy of antiseptic solutions is significantly affected by the organic substances and thus the proper use of antiseptics has become important to achieve successful disinfection and prevention of antibacterial resistance.

Bordetella pertussis infection remains an important health problem in adults due to the increasing prevalence in recent years. Pertussis in adults can be easily overlooked or misdiagnosed. We aimed to determine the prevalence of pertussis in adult patients with acute cough and the clinical features of the pertussis cases. ⋯ These results show that pertussis continues to be a health problem for adults and may present with acute cough. The growing number of adult pertussis cases suggest that vaccination of children is inadequate to prevent pertussis and the concept of 'lifelong vaccination' should be strengthened.

Studies mostly focused on risk factors and clinical status in children with cerebral palsy (CP). Various antiinflammatory markers may help us in the early diagnosis and clinical classification of cerebral palsy patients. In this study, the relationship between antiinflammatory marker levels and clinical status in patients with CP is determined. It is the first time that Fetuin-A and Paraoxonase-1 (PON-1) are examined in children with CP. ⋯ In suspected CP patients less than 24 months of age who possess prenatal and postnatal risk factors, the determination of PON-1 activity can be considered as a biomarker to support early diagnosis.
