The COVID-19 pandemic majorly disrupted conventional schooling and many countries maintained educational services through distance education. The duration of school closures in Turkey was longer than most OECD countries, thus Turkey prioritized school reopenings in the 2021-2022 academic year to mitigate possible negative outcomes of closures. Here we study the compatibility of implications for school reopenings in Turkey with these practices and assess the first semester of face-to-face schooling. ⋯ Consequently, the rate of daily closed classrooms has been kept below 1%, and the patterns of closures and openings are in general agreement with the changes of positive cases in the Turkish society. The net rate of closed classrooms decreased with the decline of quarantine days in Turkey. We hope that these insights will inform about school openings and contribute to best practices for face-to-face schooling.

Studies mostly focused on risk factors and clinical status in children with cerebral palsy (CP). Various antiinflammatory markers may help us in the early diagnosis and clinical classification of cerebral palsy patients. In this study, the relationship between antiinflammatory marker levels and clinical status in patients with CP is determined. It is the first time that Fetuin-A and Paraoxonase-1 (PON-1) are examined in children with CP. ⋯ In suspected CP patients less than 24 months of age who possess prenatal and postnatal risk factors, the determination of PON-1 activity can be considered as a biomarker to support early diagnosis.

Association between depression scores and comprehensive geriatric assessment and frailty in geriatric outpatients with somatic complaints: an observational cross-sectional study.
Depression is the most common psychiatric problem in older individuals. In some countries, the common approach is to ignore psychiatric disorders. This study aimed to reveal the importance of newly diagnosed high depression scores in the geriatric population admitted to outpatient clinics with somatic complaints. ⋯ Depression scores in older people may be associated with not only mood but also the functionality. As with other geriatric syndromes, symptoms in depression may be atypical rather than typical.

Classical heart rate variability and nonlinear heart rate analysis in mice under Napentobarbital and ketamine/xylazine anesthesia.
Anesthetics are often used in animal experiments to achieve immobilization and relieve pain. However, many anesthetics can alter the dynamics of cardiovascular systems. We aimed to compare the effects of two frequently used anesthetics agents on heart rate variability (HRV) parameters in mice. ⋯ HRV analyses, including nonlinear methods, indicated that a K+X combination reduces imbalance and disorder in the regulation of the autonomic nervous system (ANS) in comparison to both P and the P+F combination.
