It is known that the correlation of pulmonary function tests (PFT) with muscle dysfunction is insufficient. Here, we aimed to evaluate the diaphragm functions in individuals with Friedreich's ataxia (FRDA) and to examine its relationship with respiratory parameters and disease severity. ⋯ Diaphragm ultrasound may reveal respiratory dysfunction better than PFT. Diaphragm excursion and TF are associated with disease scores in individuals with FDRA. Further studies are needed regarding the detection of alveolar hypoventilation.

Characterizing cutaneous leishmaniasis in a conflict-affected region: a study from North Waziristan, Pakistan.
Cutaneous leishmaniasis is an emerging tropical disease that remains a serious public health issue in Pakistan, particularly in North Waziristan. The current research was carried out to investigate the presence of cutaneous leishmaniasis in this region. ⋯ This study provides extensive information in relation to the existence of cutaneous leishmaniasis in the North Waziristan district of Pakistan, as well as the detailed demographic features of those affected by the disease.

There are over 60,000 hemodialysis (HD) patients in Türkiye, and the number of patients is increasing yearly. Dialysate flow rate (Qd) is a factor in HD adequacy. Approximately 150 L of water are consumed per session to prepare the dialysate. We aimed to investigate whether HD effectiveness can be achieved at a low Qd in different patient groups for the purpose of saving water. ⋯ In our study, dialysis adequacy at a reduced dialysate flow was not inferior for women, patients with low body weight, or patients using small surface area membranes. Individualized HD at a reduced Qd of 300 mL/min in eligible patients can save 48 L of water per HD session and an average of 7500 L of water per year.

To evaluate whether there is a relationship between serum myosin-binding protein C (MyBP-C) levels measured in the first trimester and the timing of delivery, and, if a relationship is detected, the potential of this relationship in distinguishing between preterm and term labor. ⋯ The preterm delivery group exhibited high serum MyBP-C levels in the serum samples taken in the first trimester. First-trimester serum MyBP-C levels seem to be a simple and easy way to exclude preterm delivery risk in a significant manner. In addition, levels are significantly higher for early preterm compared with late preterm and early PROM compared with intact membranes.

Lumbar instability is an important condition that can be seen frequently in people with low back pain, affecting both the progression and the choice of appropriate exercise. The Lumbar Spine Instability Questionnaire (LSIQ) is a simple and low-cost tool for evaluating disturbed back stability in people with low back pain. The aim of this study is to develop the Turkish version of the LSIQ (LSIQ-T) and to evaluate its psychometric properties using the Rasch model. ⋯ The LSIQ-T is a valid unidimensional scale for the Turkish population. Although the LSIQ-T had low internal consistency, it demonstrated unidimensionality and is appropriate for use. Therefore, the LSIQ-T can be used in clinical practice and scientific research.
