To ascertain the current status of global health training and humanitarian relief opportunities in US and Canadian postgraduate neurology programs. ⋯ In spite of high perceived interest, only half of US neurology training programs include international electives, mostly due to a reported lack of funding. By contrast, the majority of Canadian programs that responded allow international electives, likely due to clearer guidelines from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada compared to the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education. However, the number of both Canadian and US neurology trainees venturing abroad remains a minority. Most program directors are interested in learning more information related to global health electives for neurology residents.

We determined whether head trauma was associated with amyloid deposition and neurodegeneration among individuals who were cognitively normal (CN) or had mild cognitive impairment (MCI). ⋯ Among individuals with MCI, but not CN individuals, self-reported head trauma with at least momentary loss of consciousness or memory was associated with greater amyloid deposition, suggesting that head trauma may be associated with Alzheimer disease-related neuropathology. Differences between CN individuals and individuals with MCI raise questions about the relevance of head injury-PET abnormality findings in those with MCI.

Cluster RCT of case management on patients' quality of life and caregiver strain in ALS.
To study the effect of case management on quality of life, caregiver strain, and perceived quality of care (QOC) in patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and their caregivers. ⋯ This study provides Class III evidence that case management in addition to multidisciplinary ALS care does not significantly improve health-related quality of life of patients with ALS.

To determine whether exposure to repetitive head impacts over a single season affects white matter diffusion measures in collegiate contact sport athletes. ⋯ This study suggests a relationship between head impact exposure, white matter diffusion measures, and cognition over the course of a single season, even in the absence of diagnosed concussion, in a cohort of college athletes. Further work is needed to assess whether such effects are short term or persistent.

To examine the influence of subthalamic nucleus (STN) deep brain stimulation (DBS) on driving in patients with Parkinson disease (PD). ⋯ This study provides Class IV evidence that STN-DBS in patients with PD is associated with a reduction in driving errors and improvements in driving accuracy in driving simulations.
