Intraoperative hypothermia during cytoreductive surgery for ovarian cancer and perioperative morbidity.
To evaluate intraoperative hypothermia as a predictor for morbidity after open abdominal surgery for ovarian cancer. ⋯ Surgical hypothermia is an independent predictor of early perioperative complications and overall survival after cytoreductive surgery for ovarian cancer. This is a critically important finding, because maintaining normothermia is an inexpensive modifiable factor, which could result in reduced morbidity.

Hepatic rupture in hemolysis, elevated liver enzymes, low platelets syndrome.
Rupture of hepatic hematoma associated with hemolysis, elevated liver enzymes, low platelets (HELLP) syndrome is a catastrophic complication of pregnancy. Maternal and fetal mortality rates are still high despite advances in diagnosis and treatment. We aimed to present our experience at two referral centers for hepatic disease and to compare it with cases from the literature. ⋯ The use of hepatic artery embolization to address hepatic rupture associated with HELLP syndrome may help minimize morbidity and maternal mortality.

Randomized Controlled TrialPostoperative levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system for pelvic endometriosis-related pain: a randomized controlled trial.
To estimate the effectiveness of a postoperative levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system for relieving pelvic pain in patients with endometriosis. ⋯ The levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system is effective and well accepted for long-term therapy after conservative surgery for patients with moderate to severe pain related to endometriosis. It can improve the patient's quality of life, including physical and mental health.

To estimate if neonates with early-onset group B streptococcus (GBS) sepsis have clinical evidence of fetal infection during labor or at delivery. ⋯ We believe that these findings are compelling evidence that fetuses with early-onset GBS may have signs of sepsis peripartum. We hypothesize that these data support the concept that early-onset GBS represents a spectrum of infection that often precedes birth.

Pregnancy outcomes in women after bariatric surgery compared with obese and morbidly obese controls.
To estimate the rates of pregnancy outcomes of women after bariatric surgery relative to women in a control groups. ⋯ Bariatric surgery is associated with reduction in gestational diabetes in a subsequent pregnancy, but possibly at the expense of an increase in SGA neonates.
