Total elbow arthroplasty in elderly trauma patients: adding a new perspective for functional evaluation.
Total elbow arthroplasty (TEA) has evolved over the last years, with satisfactory early results, mainly not only in degenerative arthritis, but also increasingly after trauma. Outcome studies in recently published papers are mainly based on the range of motion (ROM), complication rate as well as patient-reported outcome scales and questionnaires. The purpose of this study was to add a new perspective with the "Purdue Pegboard" skill tests in a homogenous set of elderly trauma patients to contribute to a more precise objective outcome measurement in this specific population. ⋯ In the elderly trauma patient with complex fractures of the elbow, TEA is a good alternative to joint reconstruction using various osteosynthesis techniques. TEA is able to avoid revision surgery after open reduction and internal fixation of complex fractures. In cases of failed reconstruction, it is also a viable secondary procedure in posttraumatic arthrosis. Good outcomes in functionality and dexterity can be achieved. Skill tests like the Purdue Pegboard could add a valuable perspective in assessing functional outcomes after TEA.

Percutaneous subtalar joint screw fixation of comminuted calcaneal fractures: a salvage procedure.
Malunited comminuted calcaneal fractures result in poor function due subtalar joint arthritis and altered biomechanics. We aimed to assess whether percutaneous subtalar joint screws after fracture reduction provide good outcomes for these difficult injuries. ⋯ IV (case series), Therapeutic.

Implant removal associated complications after ESIN osteosynthesis in pediatric fractures.
ESIN (elastic stable intramedullary nailing) is considered the gold standard for various pediatric fractures. The aim of this study was to analyze the incidence and type of complications during or after TEN (titanium elastic nail) removal. ⋯ Level III, retrospective.

Observational StudyThe impact of video laryngoscopy on the first-pass success rate of prehospital endotracheal intubation in The Netherlands: a retrospective observational study.
The first-pass success rate for endotracheal intubation (ETI) depends on provider experience and exposure. We hypothesize that video laryngoscopy (VL) improves first-pass and overall ETI success rates in low and intermediate experienced airway providers and prevents from unrecognized oesophageal intubations in prehospital settings. ⋯ First-pass and overall ETI success rates for ambulance and HEMS nurses are better with VL. The used device does not affect success rates of HEMS physicians. VL resulted in less unrecognized oesophageal intubations in medical cardiac arrests. In TCA cases VL resulted in more oesophageal intubations when performed by ambulance nurses before HEMS arrival.

Minimally invasive surgery rib fracture fixation based on location and anatomical landmarks.
Rib fracture is closely related to thoracic injury with high morbidity and mortality. This study aimed to investigate the clinical effect of Zhang ZhiFei (ZZF) zoning method on the selection of incision and approach in minimally invasive surgery for rib fracture. ⋯ Based on the anatomical characteristics of different zones of the chest wall, ZZF zoning method provides a new idea and reference for the selection of incision and approach in minimally invasive internal fixation for rib fracture.
