Although anesthesiologists are one of the leaders in patient safety, anesthesia in low and low-middle income countries still need improvement in safety mesures with evidence-based practice application. The study aim was to audit the safety principles implementation in the Ukrainian anesthesiologist`s practice. ⋯ The study showed that significant positive steps are being taken to improve patient safety in Ukraine, where most hospitals comply with the minimum standarts of monitoring during anesthesia. Although there are many challenges for improvement, more hospitals need to implement WHO Safe Surgery and equipment checklists, protocols etc. These areas are a priority for further development in Ukraine.

This study explored the patient clinical characteristics that may affect electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) efficacy to enable improved focus during evaluations and preparation for ECT. ⋯ In the retrospective analysis, we found that atherosclerosis, diabetes, COPD and smoking may be high-risk factors for nonremission.

Mean platelet volume is useful for predicting weaning failure: a retrospective, observational study.
To evaluate the usefulness of mean platelet volume (MPV), a marker of inflammation and stress, for predicting weaning failure in patients undergoing invasive mechanical ventilation (IMV) compared to traditional inflammation markers. ⋯ MPV could be a more valuable marker for predicting weaning failure. and the patients with MPV > 11.3 fl should be attentively evaluated before weaning since they are at high risk of weaning failure, and it would be auspicable for those patients to undergo a noninvasive ventilation or high-flow nasal cannula oxygen therapy after extubation or even an early tracheostomy.

Postreperfusion hyperkalemia (PRHK) has garnered increasing attention in regard to deceased liver transplantation (LT), especially for LT using the expanded criteria donor grafts. However, the impact of the effluent potassium (eK+) concentration on PRHK has been largely overlooked. We evaluated whether elevated eK+ concentrations are associated with PRHK in deceased LT. ⋯ This study shows that the eK+ concentration could predict the risk of PRHK in deceased LT. Further prospective studies are warranted to clarify these associations.
