Inferior vena cava collapsibility index as a predictor of hypotension after induction of general anesthesia in hypertensive patients.
Hypertensive patients are more susceptible to develop hypotension after the induction of general anesthesia (GA), most likely due to hypovolemia. An inferior vena cava collapsibility index (IVCCI) > 40-50% can predict hypotension after the induction of GA in the general population by variable accuracies. The current study aimed to investigate IVCCI% as a predictor of postinduction hypotension in hypertensive patients undergoing noncardiac surgery. ⋯ An inferior vena cava collapsibility index > 39% before anesthetic induction can be a simple noninvasive reliable predictor of hypotension after the induction of GA for hypertensive patients not treated with angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEIs) or angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs) and undergoing noncardiac surgery.

Patients admitted to the surgical intensive care unit (SICU) often suffer from multi-organ dysfunction and have a high mortality rate. Therefore, finding a simple but effective clinical indicator to predict the prognosis of patients is essential to improve their survival. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between blood urea nitrogen to serum albumin ratio (B/A) and short-term mortality among patients from the SICU. ⋯ Elevated B/A (> 9.69) on admission was an independent risk factor for short-term mortality in SICU patients, and clinicians should pay more attention to this group of patients and intervene clinically at an early stage to reduce mortality.

Comparison of post-auricular and frontal bispectral index values obtained during renal surgeries.
The bispectral index (BIS) monitor is one of the EEG-derived monitoring techniques and well-established devices used to measure the depth of anesthesia. This study aimed to assess the agreement of BIS values based on the positions of either post-auricular or frontal sensors in individual patients undergoing renal surgeries while lateral positions at various stages of anesthesia. ⋯ The study was registered in clinicaltrials.gov on 11/07/2022 (trial registration number: NCT05451823).

Bicarbonate ringer's solution could improve the intraoperative acid-base equilibrium and reduce hepatocellular enzyme levels after deceased donor liver transplantation: a randomized controlled study.
Bicarbonate Ringer's (BR) solution is a direct liver and kidney metabolism-independent HCO3- buffering system. We hypothesized that BR solution would be more effective in improving acid-base equilibrium and more conducive to better liver function than Acetate Ringer's (AR) solution in conventional orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT) patients. ⋯ Compared with AR solution, BR solution was associated with improved intraoperative acid-base balance and potentially protected early postoperative liver graft function and reduced late-postoperative renal injury.
