Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study Clinical Trial[Utility of epidural catheterization by the caudal route in pediatric anesthesia].
To compare analgesic effect of bupivacaine during and after surgery when delivered through a lumbar epidural catheter entering by the caudal route with either caudal or lumbar administration of anesthetic through the needle. ⋯ Epidural anesthesia by way of a catheter entering by the caudal space allows us to achieve intra- and postoperative analgesia of comparable quality to that afforded by a lumbar approach or a single direct caudal puncture.

Clinical Trial[Thoracic epidural anesthesia by the caudal route in pediatric anesthesia: age is a limiting factor].
To evaluate the success and degree of difficulty of inserting an epidural catheter into the caudal space in order to place its distal end at T10 in young patients. ⋯ It is not possible to guarantee the arrival of an 18-G epidural catheter to the thoracic epidural space by entering through the caudal route. In children over 1 year of age, the level of success decreases significantly. Easy advance of the catheter cannot be taken to be a sign of success.

Comparative Study[Headache following dural puncture in pregnant patients at term. Comparative study with non-obstetric patients].
To compare the incidence of postdural puncture headache after subarachnoid anesthesia with a 24G Sprotte needle among full-term obstetric patients as compared to non-obstetric patients. ⋯ The incidence of postdural puncture headache in obstetric patients is low and similar to that of non-obstetric patients when the 24G Sprotte needle is used.

Historical Article[Scientific communication in Spanish anesthesiology: medical congresses (1864-1936)].
This historical-medical study proposed to determine the evolution of knowledge in Spanish anesthesiology by examining conferences and presentations at medical congresses on record for the period between the first Spanish medical congress (1864) and the start of the Spanish Civil War (1936). We have found reports of 34 scientific meetings held during this period. ⋯ Ten were international meetings, while 25 were nation-wide conferences. We have been able to arrive at a good understanding of Spanish anesthesiology's evolution as a scientific discipline during this period.
