Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study
Agreement and reproducibility of Tono-Pen XL tip covered with ocufilm and fingertip of surgical glove in intra-ocular pressure measurement.
To compare the effect of using the fingertip of a surgical glove over Ocufilm (Reichert Technologies, NY, USA) on the agreement and reproducibility of measuring intra-ocular pressure (IOP) by the Tono-Pen XL (Reichert Technologies, NY USA). ⋯ A significant agreement exists between using Ocufilm and the fingertip of a surgical glove to cover the tip of a Tono-Pen XL for measuring IOP The coefficient of repeatability was comparable between the two different types of tip covers. When measuring IOP the tip of a Tono-Pen XL could therefore be covered by either Ocufilm or the fingertip of a surgical glove without compromising accuracy.

Comparison of age-based and height-based formula for tracheal tube size in cardiac children.
To compare the effectiveness of age-based formula (ABF) and height-based formula (HBF) for pediatric cardiac patients, including patients with failure to thrive (FTT). ⋯ Age- and height-based formula for estimating tube size in cardio-surgical children is equivalent and independent of physical development. Age-based formula as the simple method can be recommended. The availability of three tube sizes (one smaller one larger than estimated) should be ensured.

Anatomical variations of the V2 vertebral artery study by measuring the width of transverse foramen.
To evaluate the incidence of anatomical variations of the V2 segment of the vertebral artery (VA) using dry bones. ⋯ Anatomical variations of the V2 segment of the VA do exist at C4, C5, and C7. The awareness of this abnormality may reduce the risk of catastrophic intraoperative VA injury.

The inferior vena cava (IVC) diameter is often used to estimate central venous pressure (CVP); however, the correlation and the cutoff of IVC compared with CVP have not yet been described in a Thai-population. ⋯ The present study indicate that the measurement of the IVC diameter has a good correlation with CVP in Thai-population and useful for assessment of the volume status. The measurement of the IVC by ultrasonography may be an important additional evaluation of critically ill patients.

Dexmedetomidine compare with fentanyl for postoperative analgesia in outpatient gynecologic laparoscopy: a randomized controlled trial.
Low-dose dexmedetomidine provides postoperative analgesia with anti-emetic and anti-shivering. This prospective, randomized, double-blind study was designed to evaluate intraoperative infusion of dexmedetomidine and fentanyl in postoperative analgesia in outpatient gynecologic diagnostic laparoscopy under general anesthesia. ⋯ The present study demonstrates that intravenous infusion of 0.5 microg/Kg of dexmedetomidine after induction of anesthesia was better analgesia than 0.5 microg/Kg of fentanyl in the postoperative period without delayed discharge and provided perioperative hemodynamic stability during gynecologic diagnostic laparoscopy.
