[The level of dead blood leukocytes in sepsis and the significance of their elimination by extracorporeal hemocorrection techniques].
Sepsis with 18-to-33% mortality also remains the most serious problem of modem medicine today. Forty-five patients treated at the N. V. ⋯ The elevated content of dead leukocytes is an independent risk factor for a poor outcome. Plasma filtration used in sepsis patients facilitates a significant reduction in the blood concentration of dead leukocytes. The first experience with granulocytopheresis in patients with severe sepsis, a leukemoid reaction and high absolute concentrations of dead leukocytes is indicative of its clinical effectiveness, which is manifested itself by the elimination of dead leukocytes.

Clinical Trial[Possible causes and prevention ways of short-term postoperative mental disorders after regional and general anesthesia].
The authors have studied the incidence and possible causes of short-term postoperative mental disorders (STPMD) (in different types of intraoperative protection) that are determined as a nonspecific central nervous system (CNS) lesion characterized by concomitant disorders of consciousness, recognition, memory, emotions, and psychomotor functions, as well as sleep-wakening cycles. Intraanesthetic awakening has been established to play a leading role in the development of STPMD. ⋯ And, finally, CNS function monitoring is seemingly considered to be a compulsory component of intraoperative control of a patient's condition during general anesthesia. In addition, it may prevent intraanesthetic awakening episodes and the development of postoperative cognitive disorders in many respects.

[Elimination of inflammatory mediators in sepsis by means of sorption detoxification methods].
The levels of pro- and anti-inflammatory cytokines were studied in 31 patients with sepsis of varying etiology; in 17 patients of them hemosorption through the antiproteinase sorbent Ovosorb was included into a complex of traditional intensive care, in 14 patients hemocarboperfusion was made through the carbon hemosorbent Simplex-F. The sorption detoxification methods were found to cause a reduction in the excessive levels of blood inflammatory cytokines, the hemosorbent Ovosorb showing the most pronounced eliminating effect. At the same time, there was an increase in the blood level of anti-inflammatory mediators in patients on Ovosorb hemosorption. This effect in regulating pro- and anti-inflammatory cytokines was absent when hemocarboperfusion was applied.

[Geriatric aspects of diagnosis and treatment of psychotropic agent poisonings].
Clinical and laboratory parameters were comparatively assessed in persons from two age groups (15-59 and 60-89 years) on their admission to hospital and in the course of equal treatment. The elderly and senile patients showed a higher incidence of inflammatory complications and death in the toxicogenic and somatogenic phases of acute intoxication with delayed recovery of laboratory parameters.
