As more surgeons and specialists are offered hospital employment, work RVU-based compensation agreements are becoming more sophisticated and complex. In order to have a meaningful conversation with health system administrators and ensure that a compensation agreement addresses all issues pertinent to the physician's practice and specialty, physicians must familiarize themselves with the nuances of work RVU-based compensation formulas, as well as the national benchmarking standards, CPT guidelines, and reimbursement rules that impact them. The eight questions developed for this article are the result of reviewing multiple compensation agreements between physicians and hospitals and can help physicians drive the conversation with health system administrators. Engaging the services of a healthcare attorney or physician compensation expert for these conversations is advised.

New healthcare models have been developed to keep up with the dynamic changes of the Internet revolution through social media. Physicians are taking this new technology and enhancing their communication with patients as well among the healthcare community including distributing public health information via Twitter and Facebook. However, a physician's freedom of speech via Twitter and blogs can reach millions instantly, causing irreversible harm. ⋯ Federation of State Medical Boards guidelines advise that patient privacy must be protected at all times on social networking sites. In addition, employers and residency programs are also now searching Facebook and other social networking sites before hiring applicants. There are many benefits of social media; however, professionalism, patient privacy, and boundaries need to be maintained.

Medical scribes and electronic health records (EHRs) are increasingly being introduced into ambulatory clinics with variable outcomes. Characteristics of a successful implementation of medical scribes are described. Tips for optimization of the composition and presentation of the EHR as well as medical processes associated with medical documentation are presented.
