Protective effect of nitric oxide on hepatopulmonary syndrome from ischemia-reperfusion injury.
To evaluate immunological protection of nitric oxide (NO) in hepatopulmonary syndrome and probable mechanisms of ischemia-reperfusion (IR) injury in rat liver transplantation. ⋯ The NO/cGMP pathway may be critical in successful organ transplantation, especially in treating hepatopulmonary syndrome during cold IR injury in rat orthotopic liver transplantation.

Review Meta AnalysisTwo-stage vs single-stage management for concomitant gallstones and common bile duct stones.
To evaluate the safety and effectiveness of two-stage vs single-stage management for concomitant gallstones and common bile duct stones. ⋯ Single-stage management is equivalent to two-stage management but requires fewer procedures. However, patient's condition, operator's expertise and local resources should be taken into account in making treatment decisions.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyEffects of anesthetic methods on preserving anti-tumor T-helper polarization following hepatectomy.
To investigate the impact of different anesthetic techniques on T-helper (Th) cell subsets in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients undergoing hepatectomy. ⋯ G + E is superior to G in shifting the Th1/Th2 balance towards Th1, while decreasing Th17 and Treg, potentially benefiting HCC patients by promoting anti-tumor Th polarization.

Noninvasive assessment of hepatic fibrosis in Egyptian patients with chronic hepatitis C virus infection.
To evaluate the accuracy of specific biochemical markers for the assessment of hepatic fibrosis in patients with chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. ⋯ The use of AAR, APRI, API, GUCI and Pohl score measurements may decrease the need for liver biopsies in diagnosing cirrhosis, especially in Egypt, where resources are limited.

Multicenter Study Comparative StudyGlobulin-platelet model predicts minimal fibrosis and cirrhosis in chronic hepatitis B virus infected patients.
To establish a simple model consisting of the routine laboratory variables to predict both minimal fibrosis and cirrhosis in chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV)-infected patients. ⋯ By establishing a simple model using available laboratory variables, chronic HBV-infected patients with minimal fibrosis and cirrhosis can be diagnosed accurately, and the clinical application of this model may reduce the need for liver biopsy in HBV-infected patients.
