ReviewStepwise approach to continuous glucose monitoring interpretation for internists and family physicians.
Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) use has expanded rapidly in recent years among people with both type 1 and type 2 diabetes. In concert with the globally increasing prevalence of type 2 diabetes, the majority of whom receive diabetes care from internists or family physicians rather than specialists, it is becoming increasingly incumbent upon physicians within internal medicine and family practice to interpret and utilize CGM data in real-world clinical practice. ⋯ Given the limited amount of time available to internists and family physicians to address multiple complex topics in a typical office visit, a pragmatic, simple, and systematic approach to CGM interpretation is crucial. This article aims to provide internists and family physicians with a simplified and systematic approach to CGM interpretation that can be easily and efficiently implemented in a brief office visit.

Review Meta AnalysisPostoperative complications, length of stay, and mortality following colectomies in rural hospitals: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Studies regarding patients who have underwent colectomy reported contradictory post-surgical complications based on their living areas. Due to the conflicting data surrounding whether rural or urban hospitals have lower postoperative complication rates, we have performed a systematic review and meta-analysis with the aim of understanding and assessing the evidence that has already been found. ⋯ Rural hospitals overall have equivalent postoperative complication rates to urban hospitals and can provide sufficient postoperative patient care.

Meta AnalysisComparative risk-benefit profiles of weak opioids in the treatment of osteoarthritis: a network meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.
Despite their poor tolerance, weak opioids are still the most commonly-prescribed medicine for osteoarthritis (OA)-related pain. The objective of this network meta-analysis was to comparatively examine the efficacy and safety of weak opioids in OA treatment. ⋯ The results of the present study confirmed that tramadol and codeine were effective drugs for the treatment of OA, but involved considerable safety issues. Dextropropoxyphene and dihydrocodeine exhibited a relatively good safety profile but their efficacy still warrant further investigation.

ReviewCeliac disease and idiopathic pulmonary hemosiderosis: a literature review of the Lane-Hamilton syndrome.
Lane-Hamilton syndrome (LHS) presents a medical emergency, with 14% mortality due to Idiopathic Pulmonary Hemosiderosis (IPH) in acute phase. Despite the clinical severity of this entity, there has been no published review in the international literature, resulting in lack of awareness and delayed diagnosis. A rigorous search of international databases yielded a total of 80 LHS cases from January 1971 to August 2020. ⋯ Three cases with severe respiratory failure or hemodynamic instability were intubated and a further three succumbed. A thorough understanding of LHS may reveal further diagnostic indexes and a consensus on therapy guidelines. Screening for CD is essential in all IPH cases for timely recognition and favorable outcome.
