A plain-language summary is a short and clearly stated version of a study's results using non-scientific vocabulary that provide many advantages for patients and clinicians in the process of shared decision-making. ⋯ Although the publication of plain-language summaries is increasing over time, the current number corresponds to only 13% of all published reports. In addition the majority of plain-language summaries are written at an advanced reading level.

To compare the functional status at intensive care unit (ICU) discharge of patients who were later readmitted to the ICU and patients discharged home and to verify whether a decline in functional status is associated with ICU readmission. ⋯ Readmitted patients presented poorer functional status and lower pinch strength. Relative variation of the Barthel Index was associated with ICU readmission despite other factors, as was higher APACHE II, shorter IMV duration and admission without clear diagnosis.

To investigate the effect of acute isometric contraction of the pelvic floor muscles (PFM) and transversus abdominis muscle (TrAM) on inter-rectus distance (IRD) from resting values in postpartum women with diastasis rectus abdominis (DRA). ⋯ Both PFM and TrAM contraction, and combined PFM and TrAM contraction increased IRD in postpartum women with DRA.
