Clostridioides difficile infection in coronavirus disease 2019: an underestimated problem?
The use of antibiotics and possibility of microbiota disruption during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‑19) pandemic have raised questions about the incidence of Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI). ⋯ We observed a higher incidence of CDI in patients with COVID‑19. Antibiotic therapy was a relevant risk factor for CDI, although its effect was weak. Other drugs used during the pandemic were not found to have an impact on disease development. Possible causes of CDI may include fecal microbiota disruption by SARS‑CoV‑2 infection, but further research is needed to validate this hypothesis.

Cost-effectiveness of colonoscopy in the organized screening program.
Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a serious health problem, and various screening programs to reduce CRC have been introduced worldwide. However, the cost‑effectiveness of a program based on once‑in‑a‑lifetime colonoscopy in Poland is unknown. ⋯ Colonoscopy screening within the PCSP is cost‑effective and may have a substantial impact on the Polish society due to life‑years saved. The results have good informative value not only for health policy makers and medical practitioners, but also for health technology assessment.

Comparison of transcatheter aortic valve implantation outcomes in patients aged.
The number of elderly patients requiring treatment of aortic stenosis is expected to grow steadily due to increasing lifespan. Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) is an alternative treat‑ ment for patients with aortic stenosis considered nonoptimal candidates for surgical valve replacement. ⋯ Cardiovascular mortality at 1 month and 1 year following TAVI is similar in patients aged 85 years or older and in those younger than 85 years.

Association between peripheral eosinophils and clinical outcome in non-small cell lung cancer patients treated with immune checkpoint inhibitors.
Programmed cell death ligand 1 is considered a predictor of the therapeutic effect of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICPIs), but a more simple and useful predictor is needed. ⋯ The measurement of peripheral eosinophils up to around 5 weeks following the initiation of treatment, especially the maximum eosinophils count and percentage, might provide useful information about the efficacy of ICPIs.
