Thrombin generation, fibrin clot permeation and lysis in patients with severe mitral regurgitation undergoing transcatheter edge-to-edge mitral valve repair: Mitral Fibrin Study.
Intricate management of heart failure (HF), especially in the context of reduced ejection fraction, is further complicated by an elevated risk of thromboembolic events. Studies published so far offer inconclusive insight into the interplay between mitral regurgitation (MR) and the coagulation system. ⋯ We found decreased level of fibrinogen and increased permeation coefficient over a median 50 (interquartile range, 32.5-75.5)-day post‑TEER follow‑up, as compared with early postprocedural assessments. Other blood coagulation parameters remained unchanged from baseline at both follow‑up time points after TEER. Finally, CLT was an independent predictor of early NT‑proBNP increase, emphasizing its role as an indicator of hemodynamic response to TEER.

Validation of the Fibromyalgia Rapid Screening Tool in patients with axial spondyloarthritis: Polish version adaptation and value in clinical practice.
Fibromyalgia frequently co‑occurs with axial spondyloarthritis. The Fibromyalgia Rapid Screening Tool (FiRST) is a well‑recognized screening tool for fibromyalgia and has been translated into multiple languages. Yet, it has not been adapted into Polish, nor has it been validated in the context of axial spondyloarthritis. ⋯ Our study provided a validated Polish version of the FiRST. Although it may not be an ideal tool for screening in axial spondyloarthritis cases and should be used cautiously in research, it proves to be a useful instrument in daily clinical settings.

Dermal lesions associated with anti-tumor necrosis factor-α therapy in patients with inflammatory bowel disease: findings from an inflammatory bowel disease tertiary center in Poland.
There are scarce data on the occurrence of dermal lesions in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) treated with anti-tumor necrosis factor α (anti-TNF‑α) antibodies. Characteristics of the skin lesions, their clinical course, and impact on treatment are of high importance. ⋯ We observed a higher prevalence of dermal lesions in patients with IBD undergoing anti-TNF‑α therapy than in the treatment-naive group, although development of such lesions rarely necessitated a change in or discontinuation of treatment. Patients with IBD should regularly undergo follow-up dermatologic evaluation, which may improve detection of dermal lesions. Moreover, biologic therapy in IBD patients requires close collaboration with an experienced dermatologist.

The relationship between iron homeostasis and prognosis in patients with heart failure: a retrospective study based on the MIMIC IV database.
The role of iron homeostasis has become increasingly recognized as a key factor in determining a prognosis of patients with heart failure (HF). Disruptions in iron balance, encompassing deficiency and overload, can affect patient prognosis, and therefore, significantly impact treatment and management strategies. ⋯ This study underscores a significant association between iron homeostasis indicators and the prognosis of HF patients, providing valuable insights into risk stratification and clinical decision‑making for this population. Future studies should focus on dynamic fluctuations in iron homeostasis and explore interventions to improve the prognosis of HF patients.

Statistical reviews in journals of the World Association of Medical Editors.
In recent years, there has been a decline in the quality of statistical reporting in biomedical scientific journals. ⋯ Nowadays, members of editorial boards face significant problems related conducting statistical reviews for their journals. For this reason, it is imperative to start implementing statistical guidelines for biomedical journals.
