Serum pentraxin 3 concentration in patients with type 2 diabetes and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease.
Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is common in patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D). Pentraxin 3 (PTX3), a marker of inflammation, is a cardiovascular risk factor. ⋯ Reported associations of PTX3 level add new insight into possible mechanisms of its atherogenic actions.

A panel of urinary biochemical markers for the noninvasive detection of kidney dysfunction in HIV-infected patients.
The use of antiretroviral therapy in HIV‑infected patients can lead to disturbances in kidney function. Renal dysfunction can also be caused by the direct effects of HIV on the kidneys. The assessment of renal function is needed to monitor these patients for the development of chronic kidney disease. ⋯ Our results indicate that among selected enzymes and low-molecular proteins, β2M, NAG, KIM-1, and RBP are the best in assessing renal dysfunction in patients with HIV.

The evolution of electrocardiographic signs of right ventricular overload after balloon pulmonary angioplasty in chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension.
Balloon pulmonary angioplasty (BPA) is a treatment option for a patient with chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension. ⋯ An improvement in RVH parameters can be observed on ECG after a hemodynamically effective BPA.
