Whole-body computed tomography (CT) is becoming a mainstay of trauma imaging because it can help emergency department staff quickly and comprehensively evaluate the extent and severity of traumatic injuries. However, routine use of whole-body CT for trauma imaging remains controversial because of the lack of clear guidelines for appropriate use, concerns about how to manage incidental findings, and the risk posed by the modality's relatively high radiation doses. This article describes the pathobiology, epidemiology, and assessment of polytrauma and discusses the diagnostic evaluation of trauma with whole-body CT scanning.

Concussions resulting from sports activities have received attention in recent years, and failure to prevent head injury has undergone scrutiny. Although many factors contribute to sports concussion incidence, determining when an athlete can return to play is crucial to minimizing long-term effects of concussion. To date, neuroimaging plays a limited role in concussion evaluation, but conventional and advanced neuroimaging techniques are contributing to the body of research on their future use in evaluation.

ReviewMedical Imaging of Neglected Tropical Diseases of the Americas.
Neglected tropical diseases are a group of protozoan, parasitic, bacterial, and viral diseases endemic in 149 countries causing substantial illness globally. Extreme poverty and warm tropical climates are the 2 most potent forces promoting the spread of neglected tropical diseases. These forces are prevalent in Central and South America, as well as the U. ⋯ Gulf Coast. Advanced cases often require specialized medical imaging for diagnosis, disease staging, and follow-up. This article offers a review of epidemiology, pathophysiology, clinical manifestations, diagnosis (with special attention to medical imaging), and treatment of neglected tropical diseases specific to the Americas.
