Quantification of blood flow in brain tumors: comparison of arterial spin labeling and dynamic susceptibility-weighted contrast-enhanced MR imaging.
To implement an arterial spin labeling technique that is feasible in routine examinations and to test the method and compare it with dynamic susceptibility-weighted contrast material-enhanced magnetic resonance (MR) imaging for evaluation of tumor blood flow (TBF) in patients with brain tumors. ⋯ Arterial spin labeling is a suitable method for assessment of microvascular perfusion and allows distinction between high- and low-grade gliomas.

Trigeminal neuralgia: evaluation of neuralgic manifestation and site of neurovascular compression with 3D CISS MR imaging and MR angiography.
To evaluate three-dimensional (3D) constructive interference in steady-state (CISS) magnetic resonance (MR) imaging and MR angiography with multiplanar reconstruction (MPR) for detection of neurovascular compression (NVC) in patients with trigeminal neuralgia and to evaluate the relationship between clinical symptoms related to trigeminal branches and those related to the site of trigeminal nerve compression. ⋯ 3D CISS MR imaging with MPR is useful in the detection of NVC in patients with trigeminal neuralgia, compared with MR angiography. A close relationship was found between the region of neuralgic manifestation and the site of trigeminal nerve compression.

To assess the safety and efficacy of urokinase and alteplase for intrapleural fibrinolysis in children with parapneumonic pleural fluid collections. ⋯ Intrapleural fibrinolysis with urokinase or alteplase facilitates thoracostomy tube drainage of parapneumonic pleural fluid. With the dosing regimen used in this study, alteplase produces greater thoracostomy tube output than does urokinase.
