To determine whether hepatobiliary phase ( HBP hepatobiliary phase ) imaging can improve the diagnostic performance of gadoxetic acid-enhanced liver magnetic resonance (MR) imaging in the detection of hepatocellular carcinomas ( HCC hepatocellular carcinoma s) and to investigate the accuracy of gadoxetic acid-enhanced MR imaging in the allocation of transplant recipients on the basis of the Milan criteria and United Network for Organ Sharing ( UNOS United Network for Organ Sharing ) guidelines. ⋯ Addition of HBP hepatobiliary phase images can significantly improve the diagnostic performance of gadoxetic acid-enhanced liver MR imaging in the detection of 1-2-cm HCC hepatocellular carcinoma s in liver transplantation candidates. In addition, gadoxetic acid-enhanced MR imaging showed 92.1% accuracy in patient allocation on the basis of the Milan criteria and UNOS United Network for Organ Sharing guidelines.

To evaluate oxygen-enhanced T1-mapping magnetic resonance (MR) imaging as a noninvasive method for visualization and quantification of regional inflammation after segmental allergen challenge in asthmatic patients compared with control subjects. ⋯ OTF oxygen transfer function and volume over threshold are noninvasive MR imaging-derived parameters to visualize and quantify the regional allergic reaction after segmental endobronchial allergen challenge.

To evaluate the clinical utility of fast whole-brain macromolecular proton fraction ( MPF macromolecular proton fraction ) mapping in multiple sclerosis ( MS multiple sclerosis ) and compare MPF macromolecular proton fraction with established quantitative magnetic resonance (MR) imaging measures of tissue damage including magnetization transfer ( MT magnetization transfer ) ratio and relaxation rate (R1). ⋯ MPF macromolecular proton fraction mapping enables quantitative assessment of demyelination in normal-appearing brain tissues and shows primary clinical relevance of GM gray matter damage in MS multiple sclerosis . MPF macromolecular proton fraction outperforms MT magnetization transfer ratio and R1 in detection of MS multiple sclerosis -related tissue changes.

To quantify regional lung ventilation in healthy volunteers and patients with severe asthma (both before and after thermoplasty) by using a combination of helium 3 ((3)He) magnetic resonance (MR) imaging and computed tomography (CT), with the intention of developing more effective image-guided treatments for obstructive lung diseases. ⋯ Regional quantification of lung ventilation is indeed feasible and may be a useful technique for image-guided treatment of obstructive lung diseases, such as bronchial thermoplasty for severe asthma. In these patients, ventilation defects decreased as a function of time after treatment.

To evaluate the image quality, robustness, and diagnostic performance of submillimeter in-plane resolution diffusion-weighted ( DW diffusion-weighted ) magnetic resonance (MR) imaging at 7 T in the assessment of breast tumors. ⋯ At 7 T, one DW diffusion-weighted imaging examination of less than 4 minutes yielded high-quality ADC apparent diffusion coefficient maps and high-spatial-resolution T2-weighted MR images that were used to assess tumor and breast morphology. ADC apparent diffusion coefficient quantification alone enabled excellent differentiation of benign and malignant breast lesions.
