Assessment of the correlation between gender, age, body mass index and the severity of postoperative pain, nausea and vomiting in patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy.
Obesity has become one of the leading epidemic diseases in the world. Obesity is acknowledged as a risk factor for postoperative pain, nausea and vomiting (PONV), especially in obese patients undergoing laparoscopic procedures. ⋯ Female gender is a risk factor of PONV, so women should receive antiemetic prophylactic. There is a positive relationship between BMI and postoperative pain, so obese patients undergoing laparoscopic procedures should receive prophylactic application of analgesic drugs.

Case Reports[Ten years progression-free survival obtained in a patient with mantle cell lymphoma].
Mantle cell lymphoma is a rare aggressive lymphoma derived from B cells, characterized by rapid progression and subsequent recurrence. It is considered to be an incurable disease, with exception of a certain group of patients treated with an autogenic stem cell transplantation. The mean survival time is three years, after applying the conventional regimen based on COP (cyclophosphamide, vincristine, prednisone) or CHOP chemotherapy (COP + doxorubicin). ⋯ The present case reports ten years progression-free survival in a female patient with mantle cell lymphoma with baseline clinical stage IVB (MIPI 5), treated with nine courses of CHOP chemotherapy. Rituximab was added from 3 to 8 course. The complete clinical, radiological and histopathological response has been obtained.

Review Historical Article[A brief history of resuscitation - the influence of previous experience on modern techniques and methods].
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is relatively novel branch of medical science, however first descriptions of mouth-to-mouth ventilation are to be found in the Bible and literature is full of descriptions of different resuscitation methods - from flagellation and ventilation with bellows through hanging the victims upside down and compressing the chest in order to stimulate ventilation to rectal fumigation with tobacco smoke. The modern history of CPR starts with Kouwenhoven et al. who in 1960 published a paper regarding heart massage through chest compressions. Shortly after that in 1961Peter Safar presented a paradigm promoting opening the airway, performing rescue breaths and chest compressions. ⋯ Since that time guidelines were modified and improved numerously by two leading world expert organizations ERC (European Resuscitation Council) and AHA (American Heart Association) and published in a new version every 5 years. Currently 2010 guidelines should be obliged. In this paper authors made an attempt to present history of development of resuscitation techniques and methods and assess the influence of previous lifesaving methods on nowadays technologies, equipment and guidelines which allow to help those women and men whose life is in danger due to sudden cardiac arrest.

Editorial[Modern methods of prehospital bleeding management based on the experience and standards of tactical medicine].
Isolated limb hemorrhage represents 60% of avoidable deaths and remains the leading cause of death in combat zone. Ideal tourniquet must be light, durable and cheap. They should completely stop the flow of arterial blood in the limb, and their attachment should be quick and easy. ⋯ Sequential wrapping of elastic dressing around the wound produces compressive force which aim is to stem the bleeding by pressing vessel from the outside. Dressings are made of materials which adhere well to the wound, causing the seal and leave no fragments in the injured tissue. The combination of all components enables fast and effective application of the dressing in the most demanding conditions.

Observational StudyThe occurrence of tumors of the central nervous system in a clinical observation.
Brain tumor is an abnormal growth of cells in central nervous system (CNS). The most common primary brain tumors are: gliomas, meningiomas, pituitary adenomas and craniopharyngiomas. The secondary group are metastatic tumors. About 25% patients with cancers have metastasis to CNS. ⋯ It occurred that patients with primary and secondary brain tumors lived shorter than it is described in literature. In group of patients with metastases to brain 60% had one or two brain tumors so they could be treated with surgery and prognosis for them was better.
