Editorial Review[The role of high cut off membranes in renal replacement therapy of acute kidney injury in the course of sepsis - the current state of knowledge].
Sepsis as a systemic inflammatory reaction to infection is an important interdisciplinary clinical problem. Over the past 20 years, the number of patients who have contracted sepsis has doubled. The occurrence of acute kidney injury in the course of sepsis increases mortality twice, while chronic kidney disease develops in 50% of the patients who survived sepsis. ⋯ The basis for the implementation of this type of treatment was the "maximum concentration" hypothesis, which assumes that, avoiding the onset of the early peak of circulating proinflammatory molecules is possible to prevent and modulate the clinical effects of an excessively expressed inflammatory reaction in the course of sepsis. This study is an attempt to analyze and summarize the current state of knowledge on the effectiveness of using HCO membranes in patients with sepsis who have developed AKI. For this purpose, the resources of MEDLAIN/Pubmed bases from 1965 to April 2018 have been analyzed, taking into account only the full versions of articles in English, using a combination of the following words: super high-flux, high cut-off, dialysis, renal replacement therapy, filtration, diafiltration, hemodialysis, hemofiltration, hemodiafiltration, sepsis, cytokine, inflammatory mediators, inflammation.

Editorial Review[Gastroenterological manifestations of von Hippel-Lindau disease].
Von Hippel-Lindau disease is rare autosomal dominant disorder that results from mutation of VHL gene. Typical manifestations of this syndrome include haemangioblastomas of retina, cerebellum and spinal cord, endolymphatic sac tumors, clear cell cancer and kidney cysts, pheochromocytoma, pancreatic cysts and neuroendocrine tumors. ⋯ The pancreas in VHL disease is not only site of benign lesions (cysts, serous systic adenomas) but also of potentially malignant (neuroendocrine) and malignant tumors(metastases). The gastroenterological manifestations can be the first symptoms of von Hippel-Lindau disease.

The purpose of this article is to introduce the role of turmeric in medicine and summarize the current state of research on its applications. Turmeric (Curcuma longa) has had a wide range of uses in middle eastern and orietnal traditional medicine. Currently, however, its use has been truncated to a common cooking spice, despite numerous studies pointing to its healing properties and possible use in the treatment of many diseases. ⋯ It has been confirmed that its antioxidant effect correlates with a decrease in LDL levels in blood and to a reduced risk of atherosclerosis. Curcumin consumption has also been shown to have a vasodilating effect through its indirect impact on prostacyclins and directly on vascular endothelium. Many of the mention medicinal properties of turmeric are still the subject of research and debate; as such, only some of them have entered the phase of clinical trials.

In the last three years there were outbreaks caused by Zika virus, which was transmitted by mosquitoes mainly from the region of South America. However, reports WHO and CDC indicate that infection has now reached to most countries of the world, including European countries. ⋯ Treatment of infected patients boils down to symptomatic, because there is no vaccine or drugs to inhibit the replication of the virus. Underway while work on genetically modified mosquitoes to their offspring quickly wasting away. As part of the preventive measures recommended to bypass areas where the density of mosquitoes is particularly dangerous.

Editorial[Modern methods of prehospital bleeding management based on the experience and standards of tactical medicine].
Isolated limb hemorrhage represents 60% of avoidable deaths and remains the leading cause of death in combat zone. Ideal tourniquet must be light, durable and cheap. They should completely stop the flow of arterial blood in the limb, and their attachment should be quick and easy. ⋯ Sequential wrapping of elastic dressing around the wound produces compressive force which aim is to stem the bleeding by pressing vessel from the outside. Dressings are made of materials which adhere well to the wound, causing the seal and leave no fragments in the injured tissue. The combination of all components enables fast and effective application of the dressing in the most demanding conditions.
