Randomized Controlled TrialEffect of different doses of dexmedetomidine on median effective concentration of propofol for anesthesia induction: a randomized controlled trial.
Dexmedetomidine, a highly selective α2-adrenergic receptor agonist with sedative and analgesic properties, is used as an anesthetic adjunct. We determined the effects of different dexmedetomidine doses on the median effective concentration (EC50) of propofol and bispectral index (BIS) values during anesthesia induction. ⋯ Dexmedetomidine significantly and dose-dependently reduced the EC50 of propofol and BIS values during anesthesia induction. A loading dexmedetomidine dose of 0.5 µg/kg significantly reduced the EC50 of propofol and BIS value, and was associated with a lower incidence of bradycardia than higher doses.

Randomized Controlled TrialThe administration sequence of propofol and remifentanil does not affect the ED50 and ED95 of rocuronium in rapid sequence induction of anesthesia: a double-blind randomized controlled trial.
The topic of drug administration sequence in rapid sequence induction (RSI) is still an object of interest in terms of rocuronium effectiveness. The aim of this prospective, randomized trial was to evaluate the effect of administration sequence of propofol and remifentanil on ED50 and ED95 of rocuronium in a RSI model. ⋯ The choice of administration sequence of propofol and remifentanil does not have an impact on estimated ED50 and ED95 of rocuronium in providing acceptable intubation conditions in the RSI technique.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyComparison of the treatment effects of methoxamine and combining methoxamine with atropine infusion to maintain blood pressure during spinal anesthesia for cesarean delivery: a double blind randomized trial.
Hypotension is a common complication of spinal anesthesia for cesarean delivery. Atropine is a vagus nerve blocker that can antagonize vagus excitation to mitigate the reflex bradycardia. We aimed to assess the effect of methoxamine-atropine therapy in treating spinal anesthesia hypotension for cesarean section. ⋯ Methoxamine-atropine combination has a similar efficacy to methoxamine alone but has an increased hemodynamic stability and a less adverse effect occurrence.

Randomized Controlled TrialPregabalin administered as an anxiolytic agent in ultrasound-guided infraclavicular block: a controlled, double-blind, dose-ranging trial.
Adjuvant agents, given with local anesthetics or via venous, oral, or rectal routes for peripheral nerve blocking, have been in use for a long time. Literature studies about pregabalin usage in peripheral nerve blocking are limited in number. In this study, we aimed to reveal the blocking quality of pregabalin administered orally in various doses as an anxiolytic agent and its effective dose range. ⋯ The patients, who are about to undergo surgery, generally develop anxiety about death, not waking up from anesthesia, disability, pain and loss of ability to work. Pregabalin is an anti-epileptic, analgesic and anxiolytic agent. With these characteristics, it can be used to reduce pre-operative anxiety, for prophylaxis against convulsions and post-operative analgesia. One hundred fifty mg of pregabalin provides sufficient and effective analgesia, and this dose positively affects the quality of the block.

Randomized Controlled TrialThe effects of N-acetylcysteine on pulmonary functions in patients undergoing on-pump coronary artery surgery: a double blind placebo controlled study.
To investigate the effects of N-acetylcysteine (NAC) on pulmonary function tests and arterial blood gases in patients undergoing on-pump coronary artery surgery. ⋯ This study demonstrated that NAC administration in COPD patients undergoing on-pump coronary artery surgery resulted in the preservation of pulmonary functions.
