Observational StudyPostoperative Pain Surveys in Italy from 2006 and 2012: (POPSI and POPSI-2).
Despite established standards, effective treatments, and evidence-based guidelines, postoperative pain control in Italy and other parts of the world remains suboptimal. Pain control has been recognized as a fundamental human right. Effective treatments exist to control postsurgical pain. Inadequate postoperative analgesia may prolong the length of hospital stays and may adversely impact outcomes. ⋯ There is considerable room for improvement in postoperative pain control in Italy, specifically in the areas of clinical education, evidence-based treatments, better equipment, and implementation of active APS departments in more hospitals. Two surveys taken six years apart in Italy reveal, with striking similarity, that there are many unmet needs in postoperative pain control and that Italy still falls below European standards for postoperative pain control.

Assessment of the left ventricular systolic function in multi-vessel coronary artery disease with normal wall motion by two-dimensional speckle tracking echocardiography.
To evaluate the clinical value of two-dimensional speckle tracking echocardiography for analyzing the left ventricular systolic function in patients with multi-vessel coronary artery disease with normal wall motion (NWM-MVD). ⋯ The longitudinal, circumferential and radial systolic functions of the NWM-MVD patients were impaired at different degrees.

The influence of high volume hemofiltration on extra vascular lung water and alveolar-arterial oxygen pressure difference in patients with severe sepsis.
To explore the effects of high-volume hemofiltration (HVHF) on the plasma interleukin-6 (IL-6), pro-calcitonin (PCT), extra vascular lung water index (EVLWI) and alveolar-arterial oxygen exchange in patients with septic shock. ⋯ HVHF could decrease plasma inflammatory factors and EVLWI so that it could improve the levels of alveolar-arterial-oxygen exchange in patients with septic shock, so it could improve the survival rate of patients.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyUrsodeoxycholic acid and S-adenosylmethionine in the treatment of intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy: a multi-centered randomized controlled trial.
Intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy (ICP) is a special complication of pregnancy characterized by skin pruritus, abnormal liver function tests and bile acids. To compare the efficacy of ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA) and S-adenosylmethionine (SAMe) monotherapy with their combined effect on intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy (ICP). ⋯ UDCA and SAMe are both effective and safe in the treatment of ICP. UDCA monotherapy should be used as the first line therapy for ICP because it is more efficacious, cost-effective and convenient.

Heart rate variability analysis of electrocardiogram is becoming an increasingly common method to non-invasively evaluate autonomic nervous function. The aim of the study was to investigate cardiac autonomic function in subjects with and without migraine by using 24-hour ambulatory electrocardiographic recordings. ⋯ Reduced parasympathetic activity with sympathetic predominance was found in migraine patients during the night period, most affected being migraine with aura patients.
