Based on the hypothesis, that extracorporeal removal of endo- and egzogenic substances should be beneficial to the clinical course of the patient in liver failure or poisoned, treatment systems were evaluatedbased on the two concepts: (1) blood dialysis against albumin dialysate--Molecular Adsorbent Recirculating System (MARS), Single Pass Albumin Dialysis (SPAD), Continuous Veno-Venous Haemodiafiltration (CWHDF); (2) selective albumin filtration and adsorption combined with haemodialysis--Fractioned Plasma Separation and Adsorption-Prometheus. We present our own experiences with MARS and Prometheus procedures between 2003-2006 years.

Despite of the constant progress in the imaging of vessels, cerebral angiography characterises with the best specificity and sensitivity in detection of arterial, arteriovenous malformations and aneurysms. ⋯ Cerebral angiography allowed to exclude vascular pathology in 75% of children, in whom previous neuroradiological examinations suggested such pathology. It was important for their quality of life. In 25% of patients angiography confirmed results of previous neuroradiological tests detecting vascular pathology. MR with contrast medium is more sensitive than angiography in detection of venous angiomas.

Human ecology makes a scientific base for more effective prevention against contamination of the air, water and food, and other environmental factors making common risk factors for human health. It integrates interdisciplinary cooperation of experts from natural, technological, socio-economical and other sciences. Complex study is necessary for better estimation of real risk factors for an individual person. ⋯ It would be useful to focus this activity on crucial problems and selected regions. Let me propose as the top priority for inhabitants of Tarnow region as well as pilot projects for Poland; utilization of all possible achievements of science and technology for primary prevention of health hazard for inhabitants of Gmina Szczucin that is very polluted by asbestos, and also model management reducing risk factors for the natural environment and health of inhabitants in the regions of new motor-ways, as well as better primary prevention against flood accidents and connected with their effects (higher humidity of housing environment and its contamination by toxinogenic moulds) risk factors for health of communities living in rivers regions. For the purpose of optimisation of preventive action, it is necessary not only to apply the results of studies on human ecology and exchange experiences with specialists (e. g. within European projects), but also to perform better integration of the activities of experts, local society and regional administration.

Pediatric neuropsychology is currently one of the most expansive fields of psychology, developing between clinical neurology and other neurosciences. ⋯ the knowledge of possibilities and the necessity of the neuropsychological evaluation in children should become much more common, especially in the medical environment. The status of the neuropsychologist in Poland need a precise legal regulation.

Human hydrocarbon exposures have the potential to cause significant morbidity and mortality. To determine which hydrocarbons were associated with the most severe adverse outcomes, human exposure data reported to American poison information centers were analyzed. ⋯ These data demonstrate that hydrocarbons that are absorbed systemically and those with low viscosities are associated with higher hazard factors. The risks associated with hydrocarbons often implicated in abuse by older children and adolescents are also confirmed.
