Case ReportsTako-Tsubo syndrome secondary to residual neuromuscular blockade. Case report.
Tako-Tsubo syndrome is a rare postoperative complication with a 5% mortality rate. The objective of this report was to present residual neuromuscular blockade as a trigger for this syndrome, discuss this disorder, and call attention to the risks of residual neuromuscular blockade. ⋯ Residual neuromuscular blockade associated with diaphragmatic paralysis and possible pulmonary atelectasis leading to respiratory failure, hypercapnia, and adrenergic discharge triggered the Tako-Tsubo syndrome with severe clinical repercussion.

Comparative StudyComparative study of anti-emetics and their association, in the prevention of postoperative nausea and vomiting in patients undergoing gynecologic surgeries.
Prophylaxis of postoperative nausea and vomiting has been the subject of several studies. The objective of the present study was to compare anti-emetics, and their association, in the prevention of postoperative nausea and vomiting. ⋯ The association dexamethasone-droperidol-ondansetron and ondansetron alone were more effective in the prophylaxis of nausea and vomiting.

Postoperative continuous plexular analgesia. A study on the side effects and risk factors of catheter infection.
The importance of postoperative analgesia has increased over the years. Plexular catheters represent a good option for high quality analgesia with reduced systemic repercussions. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the incidence of side effects and complications in postoperative analgesia with plexular catheters and identify risk factors for bacterial colonization of the catheters. ⋯ The use of antibiotics preoperatively and the type of needle were the risk factors of infection identified.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyA comparative study between 25 x 0.70 mm and 20 x 0.55 mm needles for retrobulbar block with small volume of anesthetic for the treatment of cataracts by phacoemulsification.
The objective of this study was to compare the quality and safety of retrobulbar block for the treatment of cataracts by phacoemulsification using needles of different sizes: 27 x 0.70 mm and 20 x 0.55 mm. ⋯ Retrobulbar block with a single inferolateral puncture with a 20 x 0.55 mm needle, using low doses of anesthetics, is an effective and safe option for the treatment of cataracts by phacoemulsification.
