Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study Clinical TrialDiclofenac drops to treat inflammation after cataract surgery.
To compare the anti-inflammatory effect of topical diclofenac sodium 0.1% in a fixed combination with gentamicin 0.3% to the anti-inflammatory effect of dexamethasone phosphate 0.1% in a prospective randomized double-masked double-dummy study in patients undergoing cataract surgery. ⋯ While both treatments were effective at controlling post-operative inflammation, the diclofenac-gentamicin combination followed by diclofenac alone was significantly better at suppressing flare and cells but showed a slightly higher incidence of punctate keratitis and eye discomfort.

Peribulbar anesthesia and sub-Tenon injection for vitreoretinal surgery: 300 cases.
We carried out a prospective study in order to evaluate the efficacy and safety of peribulbar anaesthesia supplemented by a sub-Tenon injection in case of inadequate analgesia during vitreoretinal surgery. ⋯ Our results demonstrate that peribulbar anaesthesia alone offers excellent analgesia in 85% of patients and supplemented by a sub-Tenon injection in 99%.

Comparative StudyIntraocular foreign bodies. Factors influencing final visual outcome.
To identify the prognostic factors of poor visual outcome (visual acuity < or =6/240) in eyes with intraocular foreign bodies. ⋯ Using multivariate analysis, corneo-scleral entry wound, largest diameter of foreign body and secondary retinal detachment were found to be predictors of poor visual outcome after intraocular foreign body removal. Our results suggest that patients with high-risk intraocular foreign body trauma should be candidates for pars plana vitrectomy rather than electromagnet procedure.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study Clinical TrialInfluence of topical treatment on epithelial wound healing and pain in the early postoperative period following photorefractive keratectomy.
To evaluate the effect of topical treatment given immediately after photorefractive keratectomy. ⋯ Postoperative topical diclofenac and dexamethasone used during the first three days following photorefractive keratectomy may affect the epithelial healing and early visual rehabilitation.
