Lisfranc midfoot dislocations: correlations between surgical treatment and functional outcomes.
Lisfranc dislocations and fracture dislocations are the most common severe injuries of the foot. ⋯ Of all methods of surgical treatment used, the highest scores were obtained by internal fixation with screws. Eight patients (25.8 %) developed posttraumatic arthritis of the tarsometatarsal joints.

Divalent cations (calcium, magnesium, zinc, cooper, manganese) play an important role in various biological processes. Different acute or chronic renal disorders in children or adults modify the urinary excretion of these cations and may influence their concentrations in organism. ⋯ Our preliminary data show that in some acute urinary conditions, such as lower urinary tract infection and pyelonephritis, appear disturbances of plasma and urinary concentrations of divalent cations. We consi der that trace elements should be measured routinely in children with renal disorders.

Case ReportsDiagnosis of meningococcal infection by QPCR: detection and quantification of DNA / Neisseria meningitidis.
We present the case of a patient with clinical signs of meningococcemia and negative bacterial culture. Microbiological diagnosis was possible only by testing with real time PCR technique the cerebrospinal fluid and blood samples. Both pathologic samples were positive for Neisseria meningitidis by this rapid and sensitive diagnostic method.

Periprosthetic femoral fractures--evaluation of risk factors.
Endoprosthetic hip arthroplasty is a surgical intervention that significantly improves the quality of the patient's life, with excellent long term results, but with an increased risk of major complications. One such complication is the periprosthetic femoral fracture, which may occur in both young and old patients due to several risk factors typical to the elderly (osteoporosis, fall risk), cementless press-fit implants, implant loosening, and revision arthroplasty. ⋯ Periprosthetic femoral fractures result in increased morbidity and mortality rate, are difficult to treat, and require complex therapeutic strategies depending on risk factors, fracture type, bone stock, and implant stability.
