Asthma exacerbation is characterized by a rapid and progressive worsening of symptoms, mainly dyspnea, cough, wheezing and chest tightness. The intensity of an exacerbation may vary form a mild, transient worsening marked by a cough and moderate shortness of breath to a very severe and life-threatening condition. The clinical features of asthma include increased rate of breathing, cough, and prolonged and difficult expiration. ⋯ The strategy of the treatment of an asthma exacerbation includes the repeated administration of rapid-acting inhaled bronchodilators, the early introduction of systemic glucocorticoids and oxygen supplementation. The treatment is aimed to resolve the airflow limitation and ameliorate the hypoxemia, as quickly as possible. Mild exacerbations could be treated in general practice while the severe ones should be treated in emergence units.

[Reimbursement of generics in Croatia: should more have been done?].
while numerous ordinances on drug pricing and reimbursement have been enacted, trying to suppress the drug expenditure in Croatia, it seemed there were inconsistencies in pricing procedures of some of the drugs. ⋯ detailed analysis of the observed group of drugs showed that inappropriately priced drugs accounted for 100% in the year 2004 and fell to 60% of total expenditure within the observed group in the year 2007. The reference pricing system should be enacted, free price setting and financial incentives for physicians and pharmacists, as well as private insurance packages for non-reimbursed service or drugs or co-payments.

Biography Historical Article[Eminent medical doctor from Karlovac Dr. Milan Nemicić (1884-1930)].
Milan Nemicić was born in 1844 in Petrinja, Croatia. He was promoted as medical doctor at Vienna medical school (Jozefinum) in 1868. In 1873 he became chief medical officer in regiment. ⋯ He undertook first biological experiment on rabbit with rabies in Croatia, and he was first to have vaccinated patients with Pasteur's antirabies vaccine. Lexicon medicorum (Ljekarski rjecnik) was his biggest accomplishment printed in Zagreb 1898. He was retired in 1904 and lived in Graz, last years of his life he spent in Merano and died in 1930 at the age of 86 years.
