The purpose of this study was to identify, through recursive partitioning, clinically relevant criteria which predict the need for acute neurosurgical intervention in a group of patients with mild head injury. ⋯ A simple three step rule predicts the need for acute neurosurgical intervention based on clinical findings: a deteriorating GCS; an initial GCS of 13; and the presence of associated injuries or comorbid conditions.

Clinical Trial[Pre-peritoneal continuous infusion of local anesthetics for pain relief after laparotomy. A preliminary report].
Continuous administration of local anesthetic through a catheter placed in the scar of a laparotomy is a postoperative analgesic technique, which seems effective but remains little developed and poorly codified. ⋯ These results reveal a good effectiveness of the method, with moderate pain intensity and a low analgesic consumption. The local and general tolerance was excellent.

[Results of systematic subtotal parathyroidectomy with thymectomy for tertiary hyperparathyroidism after renal transplantation - 70 patients].
Due to the relatively small number of patients involved, there is currently no consensus on what operation should be performed in patients with tertiary hyperparathyroidism after renal transplantation. ⋯ This approach permits not only to cure the majority of patients with tertiary hyperparathyroidism but also to avoid recurrence when the renal function declines. When medical management has failed, we recommend systematic subtotal parathyroidectomy with thymectomy for patients with tertiary hyperparathyroidism and this should usually be performed during the second year after transplantation.

[The Association Française de Chirurgie (AFC) colorectal index: a reliable preoperative prognostic index in colorectal surgery].
Evaluation of outcome after colorectal surgery is always necessary. A new index which permits to appreciate preoperatively postoperative mortality after colorectal resection in colorectal cancer (CRC) and in diverticular disease has been published (i.e., Association Française de Chirurgie, AFC colorectal index). ⋯ These results showed the reproducibility of the AFC colorectal index and its potential application in all aetiologies after colorectal surgery.
