Serial blood phosphine levels in acute aluminium phosphide poisoning.
Serial blood phosphine (PH3) levels were done in patients with severe (Group I, n = 30), mild (Group 2, n = 10) and minimal or nil toxicity due to aluminium phosphide compound. Blood phosphine levels were significantly higher (p < 0.001) in patients of Group I than other two groups. ⋯ Higher the blood phosphine, higher was the mortality. Patients having blood phosphine levels equal to or less than 1.067 +/- 0.16 mg% survived, hence, it appeared to be limit of phosphine toxicity.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study Clinical TrialDexamethasone in adults with bacterial meningitis.
Seventy five patients of acute bacterial meningitis, aged 12 to 70 years, were randomized to two treatment groups. In addition to standard antibiotic therapy, one group received dexamethasone in a dose of 8 mg, 6 hourly for 7 days. ⋯ There were no significant differences in outcome between the two treatment groups in any of the clinical parameters assessed. The use of dexamethasone as an adjunct does not speed recovery from acute illness and does not reduce the incidence of neurological complications or death in adult patients with acute bacterial meningitis.
