[Structured clinical examinations with simulated patients during internal medicine clerkship].
Practice is essential in clinical training and can be carried out with simulations. The medical school of the University of Chile performs Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCE) using standardized simulated patients for interns. ⋯ OSCE's continuously assess competences during internal medicine clerkship in an environment with a high number of students.

Colorectal (CRC) is one of the most common types of cancer worldwide. Most tumors develop from an adenoma in a period of 10 to 15 years, but some may appear without previous adenomatous lesions. ⋯ The epidemiological evolution in the recent years in Chile has a worrisome evolution and the treatment costs of advanced stages are a burden for the healthcare system. We herein highlight the main Chilean medical and scientific contributions on the pathogenesis, early diagnosis, and treatment of CRC, which lead to its better understanding, and therefore better management, based on local evidence.

[Older people in Chile: the new social, economic and health challenge for the 21st century].
Ageing will be one of the most significant social transformations of the 21st century worldwide. In the last 40 years, Chile has tripled its older adult population. ⋯ In this context, this narrative revision aimed to describe the sociodemographic, epidemiologic and sociocultural profile of the older Chilean adults. Besides, programs and public policies focused on the improvement of their quality of life were identified.

[Asymptomatic congenitally corrected transposition of the great arteries. Report of two cases].
Congenitally corrected transposition of the great arteries is a rare congenital anomaly that can remain asymptomatic until adulthood, especially when there are no other associated congenital anomalies. We report two patients in their sixth decade of life with corrected transposition of the great arteries incidentally diagnosed by transthoracic echocardiography in a preventive medical check-up. The complementary use of cardiac computed tomography confirmed the diagnosis.
