[Coronary artery bypass grafting: evolution of coronary disease characteristics and immediate surgical outcomes over a decade].
Several factors intervene in the evolution of the characteristics of Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), such as demographic changes, surgical technique, and perioperative care. Our objective was to analyze the evolution of the characteristics of coronary artery disease in patients treated with CABG and its immediate results. ⋯ There was a significant increase in the estimated surgical risk; however, mortality remained unchanged. The increase in surgical risk is consistent with the increase in mean age and prevalence of comorbidities, as well as the increase in severe ventricular dysfunction in the group ofpatients with ventricular dysfunction and recent AMI in the second period.

[Determination of reference values of CTx and NMID-Osteocalcin and their association with osteoporosis in postmenopausal chilean women].
Bone densitometry (BD) has high specificity in the osteoporosis diagnosis but suboptimal sensitivity to estimate fracture risk. It was proposed that bone turnover markers (BTM) could be included in the osteoporosis risk algorithm, although the extent of its association is unknown. One recommended BTM to assess bone resorption is Beta-Cross Laps (B-CTx), while a BTM to assess bone formation is osteocalcin. ⋯ B-CTx and N-MID ranges were assessed for the first time in Chilean PM, similar to values found in other countries. Slightly higher values of BTM were found in the group with abnormal BD, which the presence of omitted secondary causes could explain. These BTM could be a complementary tool to BD and FRAX in bone evaluation.

Observational Study[Risk of mortality of severe SARS-CoV-2 infection and other causes of viral pneumonia in Chile].
Severe community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) due to respiratory viruses is highly prevalent in Chile. Common etiologies include Influenza A and B, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), Hantavirus, and SARS-CoV-2 since 2020. ⋯ COVID-19 was not associated with an increased risk of 30-day mortality compared to other common respiratory viruses in our study. Older age, immunosuppression, and cyanosis were associated with higher risk among patients with severe viral CAP.

[Post-Thyroidectomy Hypocalcemia: Incidence, Prediction, and Outpatient Management Strategies Based on PTH and Calcium Levels].
PTH measurement has been proposed to predict transient and permanent postoperative hypocalcemia. There is no standard cut-off point or time for sampling. ⋯ Protocols for measuring PTH as a hypocalcemia predictor vary. Each center must know and establish its management protocols. With this experience, we demonstrate the usefulness and safety of a management scheme based on calcium, PTH (normal, low, or undetectable), and symptoms with an indication of prophylactic treatment for all patients and a safe outpatient setting at a lower cost than prolonged hospitalization.

[Health-Related Quality of Life in Heart Transplant Recipients: A Review].
Organ transplantation is a therapeutic alternative for patients with end-stage organ failure resulting from chronic or acute disease. In this context, health-related quality of life is an important multidimensional concept to evaluate the benefits of transplantation. ⋯ Heart transplantation represents a successful therapeutic alternative that not only prolongs life but also makes it possible to achieve an adequate health-related quality of life. Family and social support are crucial elements that impact adjustment and quality of life during the pre- and post-transplant process.
