Case Reports[Diabetic ketoacidosis with mild hyperglycemia associated with the use of canagliflozin. Report of one case with type 1 diabetes].
Diabetic ketoacidosis with mild hyperglycemia is a major complication of sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors. Although its use is not approved for patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus, the drug is often prescribed with the hope of optimizing metabolic control. ⋯ Laboratory showed a blood glucose of 200 mg/dl, a severe metabolic acidosis (pH 7.1) and ketonemia. The patient was successfully treated in the intensive care unit.

[Clinical features of major depressive disorders treated in secondary health care facilities in Chile].
Depression is considered the second leading cause of disability worldwide. ⋯ MDD treated at the secondary care level is severe and its symptoms are intense. The time lapse prior to referral was prolonged. Primary care management and referral of these patients should be studied more closely.

[Differentiated review of biomedical research projects by ethics committees].
Ten years after the approval of the Chilean bill that regulates scientific research in humans (Law Nº 20.120), and considering the current status of accreditation and training of many Research Ethics Committee (REC), it is necessary to analyze their performance. We analyzed the Chilean experience with REC aiming to propose a differential type of review, considering the risks to research participants. ⋯ In this proposal the type of review is confirmed or can be modified by a designated member of the committee after an initial review of the project. Thus, the deliberation and review times of the committee could be optimized avoiding delays in their revision.

Randomized Controlled Trial[Effectiveness of a structured educative program in Chilean diabetic patients].
Structured educative programs have demonstrated their usefulness as a strategy to improve metabolic control in diabetic patients. ⋯ A structured educative program resulted in a 35% greater reduction in glycosylated hemoglobin levels, compared with a control group. Metabolic control improvement differed between the educators who carried out the program.

[Association of physical activity and dietary habits with overweight in fertile Chilean women].
Women in Chile are mainly responsible in the formation of eating habits in the population, particularly at their homes. ⋯ The promotion whole grain cereal consumption and physical activity in women is advisable to prevent overweight, mostly in vulnerable groups such as those older than 31 years, with a low educational level and living rural areas.
