[Role of health professionals in the prevention of domestic violence against women].
Domestic violence against women is an important public health problem that cannot be ignored. Health professionals need to take part in the prevention, detection and treatment processes, acting in a coordinate way with other professionals and institutions. This paper analyzes the consequences of domestic violence against women, and underscores the fact that health professionals are part of the social circle surrounding the victims, playing an important role in its detection and prevention. Several response strategies from the health services are examined and, finally, the paper considers screening as a mechanism for early detection of domestic violence, paying special attention to the important controversies that surround this issue.

Case Reports[Severe lactic acidosis caused by propofol infusion: report of one case].
Propofol infusion syndrome (PRIS) is a rare but potentially lethal complications. This disorder is triggered under unknown circumstances by a propofol infusion of more than 5 mg/kg/h for more than 48 h. PRIS is characterized by a multiorgan failure and rhabdomyolysis and is induced by a disturbance in mitochondrial long chain fatty acid oxidation. ⋯ In the immediate postoperative period, she had an unexplained and severe lactic acidosis. During anaesthesia, she received a propofol infusion of 7 mg/kg/h that continued in the UCI at a rate of 3.5 mg/kg/h, for 8 hours more. The suspicion of PRIS motivated immediate discontinuation of propofol with rapid correction of lactic acidosis and full recovery of the patient.

Multicenter Study Clinical Trial[Biphasic insulin aspart for the management of diabetic patients with unsatisfactory metabolic control].
Biophasic insulin aspart (InAsBi) is a mixture of 30% of rapid acting soluble aspart insulin and 70% aspart insulin retarded with protamine. The soluble portion reduces postprandial serum glucose rises and the retarded portion reduces basal glucose levels. ⋯ In this group of diabetic patients with a bad metabolic control, the use of InAsBi was associated with a significant reduction of glycosilated hemoglobin levels.

[Intraoperative diastolic dysfunction as a risk factor for hemodynamic instability].
Diastolic function can be evaluated intraoperatively using transesoptiageal echocardiography. ⋯ In this group of patients with cardiovascular disease, intraoperative diastolic dysfunction is a risk factor for hemodynamic instability.

Review[Do antidepressants really increase suicide rates in childhood and adolescence?].
The use of antidepressant in depressive illness results in a reduction of suicidal attempts and deaths due to suicide, conditions that are generally present in this disorder. Recently, the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) prohibited the use of antidepressants during childhood and adolescence. ⋯ It is not possible to ascribe a direct responsibility to antidepressants, because depression, by definition, has suicidal ideation. On the contrary, the reduction of suicidal rates supports the effectiveness of these medications.
