[Split night polysomnography to titrate continuous positive airway pressure therapy in adult patients with obstructive sleep apnea].
Nasal continuous positive airway pressure therapy (CPAP) in the treatment of choice for adult obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). The diagnosis is established with polysomnography, but this study is expensive and must be repeated in those patients that require CPAP, to titrate the pressure of the therapy. Split polysomnography during one night to establish the diagnosis and titrate the pressure has been proposed to reduce costs. ⋯ An adequate CPAP pressure can be prescribed to 80% of patients subjected to a split-night polysomnography. The basal registry period should not be longer than three hours, to allow an adequate titration lapse.

Multicenter Study[Smoking and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease: attributable risk determination].
Smoking is the main risk factor for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), an important cause of morbidity and mortality. ⋯ This article confirms the strong association between smoking and COPD. Attributable risks are high and significant, even when they are adjusted by confounding variables. Women had a higher risk than men, at lower levels of tobacco consumption.

Case Reports[Accidental ingestion of magnets in children. Report of three cases].
Accidental ingestion of foreign bodies in childhood is an increasing problem. Although many of them can be treated with an expectant approach, allowing their passage through the gastrointestinal tract, magnets must be extracted, due to their high rate of complications, such as perforation. ⋯ A four year-old female was operated with a perforation of the anterior wall of the stomach and three magnets were extracted from the peritoneal cavity. A four year-old female, was transferred from a hospital where she had been operated for a magnet ingestion that provoked three perforations in the small bowel.

Review[Recommendations for the nutritional assessment of critically ill patients].
Undernutrition affects 30 to 50% of hospitalized patients. The identification of patients with undernutrition or in risk to become undernourished is of utmost importance to prescribe a timely nutritional support. ⋯ Prognostic indexes and other parameters used for the assessment of nutritional risk are also discussed. Some tools are proposed for the diagnosis of hospital malnutrition.
