Case ReportsPosterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome complicating postpartum eclampsia in a Nigerian: case report.
This is a case of posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome (PRES) associated with postpartum eclampsia in a primiparous Nigerian. ⋯ PRES complicating eclampsia is a clinicoradiological diagnosis. In most cases neurological symptoms improve with good supportive care and adequate treatment of the underlying condition as was the case in this patient. However permanent neurological sequelae can result from delayed diagnosis and treatment; therefore a high index of suspicion, early diagnosis and treatment are essential.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyA comparative study between caudal bupivacaine and bupivacaine co-administered with neostigmine for postoperative analgesia in children.
The aim of this study was to compare the duration of postoperative analgesia and possible adverse effects produced by caudal bupivacaine 0.25% at 1 ml/kg with or without 1.5 ug/kg of neostigmine in children undergoing unilateral herniotomy. ⋯ The study shows that the addition of low dose neostigmine to caudal isobaric bupivacaine significantly prolonged the time to first analgesic request and hence significantly reduced postoperative analgesic requirement.

Randomized Controlled TrialThe effect of nail polish and acrylic nails on pulse oximetry reading using the Lifebox oximeter in Nigeria.
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES - Pulse oximetry is mandatory during anaesthesia, sedation and transfer of critically ill patients. The effect of nail polish and acrylic nails on the accuracy of saturation reading is inconsistent. The Lifebox pulse oximeter is reliable and recommended for low and middle income countries. ⋯ The mean SpO- for black and brown polish were significantly different from their control mean (p<0.001). CONCLUSION Black and brown polish resulted in a significant decrease in SpO with the Lifebox oximeter. Dark coloured nail polish should be removed prior to SpO2 determination to ensure that accurate readings can be obtained.

Clinical correlates of women requesting labour epidural analgesia in a tertiary hospital in Nigeria.
To evaluate the clinical correlates of women who received pain relief in labour with lumbar epidural analgesia and also investigate the labour outcome. ⋯ This study suggests that labour epidural analgesia is not associated with increased caesarean section and adverse foetal outcome. This is of value in increasing the acceptance of this service by pregnant women in Nigeria.

Case ReportsUnrecognised guide wire migration during internal jugular cannulation and its retrieval--a case report.
The objective of this article is to report a case of unrecognised missed guide wire diagnosed two months after right internal jugular cannulation and which was successfully retrieved from the right femoral vein. ⋯ Intravascular loss of a guide wire is a rare complication of CVC insertion. If basic precautionary measures were taken, the loss of guide wire would have been avoided.
