COVID-19 managed with early non-invasive ventilation and a bundle pharmacotherapy: A case report.
The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has become an immense public health burden, first in China and subsequently worldwide. Developing effective control measures for COVID-19, especially measures that can halt the worsening of severe cases to a critical status is of urgent importance. ⋯ Early non-invasive ventilation with a bundle pharmacotherapy may be an effective treatment regimen for the broader population of patients with COVID-19.

Visceral hypersensitivity and psychological performance are the main pathophysiological mechanisms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Previous studies have found that cholecystokinin (CCK) can enhance colon movement and that serotonin transporter (SERT) is a transmembrane transport protein with high affinity for 5-hydroxytryptamine, which can rapidly reuptake 5-hydroxytryptamine and then regulate its action time and intensity. We speculate that SERT and CCK might play a role in the pathogenesis of diarrhea-predominant IBS (IBS-D) by affecting visceral sensitivity and the brain-gut axis. ⋯ IBS-D patients had psychosomatic disorders and visceral hypersensitivity. SERT and CCK might be involved in the pathogenesis of IBS-D by regulating the brain-gut axis and affecting visceral sensitivity. This provides a new potential method for identifying a more specific and effective therapeutic target.

The pneumonia caused by the coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) outbreak in Wuhan, China constitutes a public health emergency of international concern. The gastrointestinal symptoms of vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal pain and the detection of COVID-19 nucleic acid from fecal specimens in a small number of patients suggest the possibility of transmission via the gastrointestinal tract. ⋯ Digestive endoscopy is an invasive procedure during which children cannot wear masks; therefore, they have higher risks of exposure to COVID-19, and the digestive endoscopy center is a relatively high-risk area for COVID-19 infection. Based on these factors and in combination with related policies and regulations, a prevention and control program for the COVID-19 pneumonia in a children's digestive endoscopy center was established to prevent the COVID-19 nosocomial infection.

The first case of pneumonia subsequently attributed to severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) occurred in Wuhan, Hubei Province on December 8, 2019. The symptoms included fever, coughing, and breathing difficulties. A few patients with this infection may only have atypical symptoms, which could lead to a misdiagnosis and subsequently further facilitate the spread of the virus. ⋯ Our patient had atypical symptoms of COVID-19. Careful acquisition of an epidemiological history is necessary to make a correct diagnosis and strategize a treatment plan.

Extrapontine myelinolysis caused by rapid correction of pituitrin-induced severe hyponatremia: A case report.
Severe hyponatremia is considered a rare complication of pituitrin, which is widely used for the treatment of pulmonary hemorrhage. However, the management of pituitrin-associated hyponatremia can be challenging because a rapid correction of hyponatremia may cause the development of osmotic demyelination syndrome, resulting in life-threatening neurological injuries. ⋯ Physicians should be fully aware that pituitrin can cause profound hyponatremia and its correction must be performed at a controlled rate to prevent the development of osmotic demyelination syndrome.
