[Significance of endogenous sulfur dioxide in the regulation of cardiovascular system].
Since the 1980's nitric oxide (NO), carbon monoxide (CO) and hydrogen sulfide (H(2)S), the endogenous gas molecules produced from metabolic pathway, have been realized as signal molecules to be involved in the regulation of body homeostasis and to play important roles under physiological and pathophysiological conditions. The researches on these endogenous gas signal molecules opened a new avenue in life science. To explore the new member of gasotransmitter family, other endogenous gas molecules which have been regarded as metabolic waste up to date, and their biological regulatory effects have been paid close attention to in the current fields of life science and medicine. ⋯ Moreover, SO(2) might play considerable roles in the regulation of systemic circulatory pressure, pulmonary circulatory pressure and vascular structural remodeling in the pathogenesis of hypertension and hypoxic pulmonary hypertension. On the basis of the above findings, we presumed that endogenous SO(2) might be a novel cardiovascular functional regulatory gasotransmitter. More studies on the significance of endogenous SO(2) in cardiovascular system under physiological and pathophysiological conditions need to be investigated.

Case Reports[A case of delayed cervical epidural hematoma with C5 nerve root palsy after posterior cervical laminoplasty].
Delayed postoperative spinal epidural hematoma (DPSEH) is a rare and potentially devastating complication of laminoplasty, and cervical nerve root palsy occurs more frequently than DPSEH, especially with C5 nerve root palsy. The authors describe a case of DPSEH with C5 nerve root palsy that developed in a patient 3 days after he underwent laminoplasty. In this case, a 78-year-old man with a history that having taken Aspirin without the doctor's instruction for 5-6 years, he underwent cervical laminoplasty for mild myelopathy. ⋯ Therefore, the symptoms of DPSEH are not so typical that its possibility should be kept in mind. Sometimes a differential diagnosis should be made with C5 nerve root palsy which may only represent weakness of upper extremities. The authors recommend that magnetic resonance imaging is helpful for the diagnosis of DPSEH and a revision surgery should be taken as soon as possible once the hematoma causing the neurologic deterioration was confirmed.

Case Reports[A case of stab wound of cervical spinal cord in a child].
The stab wound of cervical spinal cord is rare in clinic. A four-year boy was encountered a directly posterior stab wound in neck by a knife in an accident. He was sent to hospital with hypovolemia shock. ⋯ After operation he received neuro nutrition drugs and Prednisolone because of neurologic deficit. A 14-month follow-up was made. His neurologic deficit was improved but deformity of cervical kyphosis appeared.
