Observational StudyBleeding in Patients With Gastrointestinal Cancer Compared With Nongastrointestinal Cancer Treated With Apixaban, Rivaroxaban, or Enoxaparin for Acute Venous Thromboembolism.
To compare the bleeding risk in patients with gastrointestinal (GI) cancer with that in patients with non-GI cancer treated with anticoagulation for acute cancer-associated venous thromboembolism (Ca-VTE). ⋯ Apixaban has a higher rate of major bleeding in patients with luminal GI cancer compared with patients with non-GI cancer and compared with enoxaparin in patients with luminal GI cancer. Rivaroxaban shows no increased risk of major bleeding in patients with GI cancer or luminal GI cancer compared with patients with non-GI cancer.

Artificial Intelligence-Enhanced Electrocardiogram for the Early Detection of Cardiac Amyloidosis.
To develop an artificial intelligence (AI)-based tool to detect cardiac amyloidosis (CA) from a standard 12-lead electrocardiogram (ECG). ⋯ An AI-driven ECG model effectively detects CA and may promote early diagnosis of this life-threatening disease.

Incidence of Clinically Relevant Thyroid Cancers Remains Stable for Almost a Century: A Population-Based Study.
To examine the trends in incidence of clinically relevant thyroid cancers within the overall rising incidence of thyroid cancers. ⋯ Incidence rates of clinically relevant thyroid cancers, as defined by histology, size, and invasiveness, have not changed significantly in 80 years. The rising thyroid cancer incidence is driven by indolent thyroid cancers.

DXA Versus Clinical Measures of Adiposity as Predictors of Cardiometabolic Diseases and All-Cause Mortality in Postmenopausal Women.
To investigate whether dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA) estimates of adiposity improve risk prediction for cardiometabolic diseases over traditional surrogates, body mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC), and waist-to-hip ratio (WHR) in older women. ⋯ DXA-derived estimates of abdominal adiposity in postmenopausal women may allow for substantially improved risk prediction of diabetes over standard clinical risk models. Larger DXA studies with complete lipid biomarker profiles and clinical trials are needed before firm conclusions can be made.

Corticosteroid Use and Risk of Herpes Zoster in a Population-Based Cohort.
To examine the relationship between corticosteroid use and herpes zoster risk. ⋯ Practitioners should be alert to the increased risk of zoster among patients taking systemic corticosteroids. Given the significant morbidity from zoster, particularly in older adults, these findings support judicious prescribing of corticosteroids, including using as low a dose and as short a course as possible.
