Nineteen patients with infective endocarditis underwent surgery. Congenital heart disease was found in 6 patients, valve disease in 13. Seven patients had history of rheumatism. ⋯ There was no operative death. Follow-up for 3-109 months after operation showed no evidence of recurrent endocarditis. We suggest that early surgical treatment is mandatory for intractable infective endocarditis if excellent result is expected.
