Multicenter StudyResearch diagnostic criteria for temporomandibular disorders (RDC/TMD): development of image analysis criteria and examiner reliability for image analysis.
As part of the Multisite Research Diagnostic Criteria For Temporomandibular Disorders (RDC/TMD) Validation Project, comprehensive temporomandibular joint diagnostic criteria were developed for image analysis using panoramic radiography, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and computerized tomography (CT). ⋯ Comprehensive image analysis criteria for the RDC/TMD Validation Project were developed, which can reliably be used for assessing OA using CT and for disc position and effusion using MRI.

Historical ArticleDental status of three Egyptian mummies: radiological investigation by multislice computerized tomography.
The aim of the study was to provide a paleopathologic and radiologic overview of the jaws and teeth of 3 Egyptian mummies preserved in the Civic Museum of History and Art in Trieste. Computerized tomography (CT) imaging and postprocessing techniques were used to examine the oral structures. ⋯ The CT evaluations of the oral structures of the mummies provided insight into the dental status and oral diseases of these ancient Egyptians. The low DMT and DMTs values and indications of periodontitis may be associated with the lifestyle of these Egyptians. The fully erupted and well aligned third molars may represent a morphologic adaptation of the arches to the muscular activity associated with grinding tough foods.

Review Case ReportsDiplopia after inferior alveolar nerve block anesthesia: report of 2 cases and literature review.
Inferior alveolar nerve block (IANB) anesthesia is one of the most common procedures in the dental clinic. Although this procedure is well known for its safety, complications can still occur. ⋯ We experienced 2 cases of diplopia after IANB anesthesia. This report describes the cause and diagnosis of the associated symptoms and includes a review of the literature.

Central giant cell lesion of the jaw: nonsurgical treatment with calcitonin nasal spray.
The aim was to evaluate the effectiveness of the long-term administration of intranasal calcitonin spray for the treatment of central giant cell granuloma (CGCG) in a retrospective case study. ⋯ Calcitonin nasal spray appears to be safe and effective for the treatment of CGCG and might be considered an alternative to surgery. Further controlled studies are needed to corroborate these findings.

Joint hypermobility and disk displacement confirmed by magnetic resonance imaging: a study of women with temporomandibular disorders.
The objective of this study was to test whether or not there is an association between generalized joint hypermobility (measured using the Beighton score) and temporomandibular joint disk displacement in women who had sought medical attention for temporomandibular disorders (TMD). ⋯ Generalized joint hypermobility may be a factor related to TMD, but we did not find an association between generalized joint hypermobility and anterior disk displacement in women.
